Dorothy Hays, of John Street in Seaforth, is the first recipient of a Special Service Award for Lioness District A-9., which she helped organize in Seaforth 15 years ago. She hasn't missed a meeting since the charter night of the Seaforth Lioness Club on March 26, 1980. "Dorothy is known in our small town as the 'Bunny Lady'," as current President Anne Dayman introduced her at the recent district convention. "She has been chairman of our chocolate bunny sales for a long time," Dayman continued. "Her husband George always said she could keep the bunnies in the front hall of their home for the girls to pick up as long as they did not multiply like bunnies are so notorious for doing. Thank God they never did!" Hays was President of the Seaforth club its first year, and later served as past president, and as a director on the executive from 1985 to 1989. Among other things, she also contributed to "Hearts and Flowers and helped bring eight new members into the club, including the current president. "By 'special' I mean kind, caring, hardworking with unlimited time and energy to not only Lionism but to everything she does," Dayman continued in her speech to the convention April 8. "She always looks forward to saying 'Hi' to old friends and to meeting new ones each year. She is a very respected and loved member of our club and the district and I can think of no one more deserving of this award." GREGOR CAMPBELL PHOTO SPECIAL SERVICE AWARD - Dorothy Hays of John Street is Seaforth was recently honoured for 15 years of service to the Seaforth Lioness Club. Everyone enjoys hearing the wonderful old tunes as Bill honours any requests for 'favorites'. Music videos by Lawrence Welk and Don Messer's Jubilee also kept everyone's toes tapping. Bible study with Rev. Sloan was also enjoyed. Conducting a lovely communion church service was Rev. Randy Banks. Thanks to Patty Banks for providing the music. The Seaforth Nursery School brightened a rainy morning enter- taining with songs and games. This is one of our residents favorite programs. Our Bowling program with grade 7 from Seaforth Public School is going well. An afternoon bingo, assisted by volunteers Dorothy Papple and Haze. McGonigle, was also enjoyed. Our activity department has purchased a compact disc of Pope John Paul II and Fr. Colm Kilcoyne leading the "Rosary". This will provide resi- dents unable to attend services in the community to continue their tradition in our nursing home on a weekly basis. We would also like to welcome Teresa O'Donnell to our team of "Eucharistic Ministers" who bring communion to our Cath- olic residents every Sunday morn- ing, along with Mary DeJong, Bea Kale and Adrianne Hutchinson. Your dedication to our residents is very much appreciated. Coming events: April 25 - 2 p.m. - Sing Along with Marion Rose. April 27 - 2 p.m. - Birthday Party with 'Notes of Yesteryear'.
