Exeter couple to
raise funds
through walk for
Sick Kids
An Exeter couple, who lost their
daughter to a rare liver disorder two
weeks before her first birthday, is
hoping to raise $20,000 in their
fifth and final spring community
Walk for Sick Kids on Sunday,
April 23. Steve and Audrey Skinner
want to reach or surpass the
5100,000 milestone, after raising
S80,000 in the first four annual
walks in Exeter.
The money has been used to buy
much-needed equipment by the
Children's Hospital of Western
Ontario in London where Stephanie
spent 80 percent of her life until her
death because of complications
from biliary atresia and after a liver
transplant in April 1990.
The purchases have included a
portable ventilator for the Paediatric
Critical Care Unit, an electro
cardiogram unit for the emergency
department, a colonoscope for the
Ambulatory Transport Team and a
colopscope in the Paediatric
Emergency Department for children
who may have been sexually
abused.
"In some way, the equipment
purchased from the walk keeps
Stephanie's memory alive and gives
our friends, family and community
a chance to celebrate her life," says
Mrs. Skinner.
For more information on the
walk, contact Steve and Audrey
Skinner at 235-2164 or Dan and
Donna Overholt at 235-1463.
