Ladies' auxiliary celebrates anniversary
The United Church Women's
group in Hensall met last Thursday
afternoon, March 2 , at 2 p.m. Elva
Forrest opened the meeting with a
poem, followed by prayer.
Rena Caldwell used for her devo-
tional theme, `Women of the Bible.'
Rena spoke of the important roles
of women in the church: the lives
of Mary and Martha, sisters of
Lazarus; Jesus' Mother Mary; Mary
Magdalene; Mary, the mother of
James and Joanne; and many
others. Rena closed her devotion
with prayer and the hymn "Faith of
Our Fathers" was sung.
The offering was given and dedi-
cated by Elva Forrest. The hymn
'How Glorious Zion's Courts
Appear' was sung.
The minutes of the February
meeting and correspondence were
read. Twenty-five visits were made.
Hilda Payne gave a humorous
reading `Being an adult'. Mary
Roobol sent seven cards. Audrey
Christie read two articles from The
Observer. The executive planned
the programs for the remainder of
the year and these were accepted.
Mary Roobol and Hilda Payne
served lunch.
The Hensall Sunset Seniors held
their meeting on March 14, at
Hensall United Church. President
Helen McKay welcomed everyone,
HAAO treasurer
Seaforth Hospital Auxiliary
meeting was held on Tuesday,
March 14 at 8 p.m. in Conference
Room 2.
President Margaret M. Mennell
welcomed everyone and opened the
meeting with a poem entitled How
To Be Happy. Roll Call was
answered by 20 members with a
gift of a hair brush or a comb for
the patients in Hospital.
Recording secretary read the
minutes which were approved.
Margaret M. Mennell read the
correspondence. The HAAO
Conference Region 2 will be
hosted by St. Marys Memorial
Hospital St. Marys ON on April 24
with three workshops and Audrey
Lemmon HAAO Treasurer as guest
speaker.

17 members answered the roll call.
A donation was made to Town and
Country Homemakers and appreci-
ation was expressed to Max
Ducharme's Orchestra, for playing
at the birthday party at Huronview.
The April meeting will be April 4
at 6 p.m. with a pot luck dinner. An
invitation to the Legion's Daffodil
Tea, April 12 was received. Lunch
was served by Evelyn Flynn,
Stewart and Irene Blackwell and
Anita Bengough.
Winners of the cards were Isabel
Rogerson, Pearl Taylor, high;
Evelyn McBeath, Stewart
Blackwell, low; Vera Smale, lone
hands.
The Hensall and District Horticul-
tural Society met March 13, at the
Hensall United Church. The group
opened the meeting with the singing
of "O' Canada", accompanied by
Janet Mowat. As this was New
Member Night, new members were
asked to introduce themselves to the
group.
Sybille Schaufler introduced the
speaker Susan Handerer, of Susan's
Greenhouses, in Crediton. After
guest speaker
Renewal will be held on May 3 and
4 at OHA Centre Don Mills.
Speakers will be Dr. Janet Lapp
president of C.E.O. C.L.D.
International and John Casses and
Harold L. Taylor two members well
attend this conference.
Gift Shoppe will be opened
additional hours starting April 3.

Wednesday morning from 9:30 a.m.
to 11:30 a.m. Seaforth Hospital
Auxiliary will host the Fall Region
2 Conference.
The Auxiliary ladies are making
and selling Easter eggs again this
year. Orders taken from March 29
to April 10 pick up date April 13 at
Seaforth Community Hospital.

The meeting adjourned and a
social time spent.
Police still seek vandals
While a vehicle was parked at
Tops bar in Vanastra an under
carriage for a 1992 snowmobile was
taken from the back of a pickup
truck. The pickup was parked in the
parking lot at the time of the theft.
On the Jan. 29 or 30 unknown
persons entered the cemetery at
Egmondville and knocked over 21
headstones.
The Exeter Curling Club was
broken into on Jan. 14. Entry was
gained through a window and once
inside a quantity of liquor was
removed.
On Jan. 14 the Legion in Blyth
was broken into. The front door
was pried open and once inside the
crooks stole cash, 20 bottles of
liquor, and 100 packages of ciga-
rettes. Approximately $300 damage
was also done while breaking in.

President Ann Overweel thanked
Susan for the informative presenta-
tion. The meeting closed and the
draws were held. The winners of
the draws were Dianne
Gerstenkom, Jenny Kipfer, Sybille
Schaufler and Dorothy Brintnell.
Lunch was served, under the direc-
tion of Mary Kinsman.
Rev. Henry Annen conducted the
service at Hensall United Church,
this past Sunday. The greeter was
Hazel Corbett. The ushers were
Cecil Pepper and Garry Alderdice.
Rev. Annen's message was "The
Secret Ingredient of Success", the
Children's Story was "We Have
Roots".
The Friendship Circle meet April
3 at 8 p.m.
The Aftemoon Ladies Group meet
April 6 at 2 p.m.
HENSALL NEWS
The Hensall Legion Ladies' Aux-
iliary celebrated the Auxiliary's
45th anniversary (actual date Octo-
ber 1994) on Saturday evening
March 25, at the Legion Hall.
Legion Branch 468 catered.
Melinda Hovius was invited as
guest speaker. She gave an interest-
ing speech on her Encounters in
Canada trip to Ottawa.

At Hensall United Church, Rev.
Henry Annen chose for his message
"My Younger brother gets away
with everything". Belva Fuss pre-
sided at the organ.
Becky Corbett was the junior
minister. Greeters were Helen and
Jerry Drysdale. Ushers were Steve
McGregor and Raye Jacobe. All
leaders and helpers were thanked
for their work at Bible School.
Friendship Circle meet April 3 at
8 p.m., the guest speakers Murray
and Olene Dennis of Walton will
tell of their trip to Israel and the
Holy Land.
Afternoon Ladies meet April 6 at
2 p.m. Donations are still being
received for the carpet, to the
installed May 15, on the stairway,
hall and choir room. A painting
work party is being organized for
April 29 at 8:30 a.m.
