Training camp motivates athletes
BY TIM CUMMING
Expositor Editor
Two students from Seaforth Dis-
trict High School are ready to take
on the track and field world after
attending a training camp in Texas.
Carly Price and Lori Perrie went
to the University of Texas in Austin
between March 10 and March 19 to
train with some top Canadian track
coaches.
How motivated were the girls
upon their return to Canada? Just
ask Lori Perrie.
"I think I ran every day after I
got back and I never do that," she
said with a smile. "I think we're
going to have a real advantage
when this season gets started."
Her enthusiasm is echoed by
Carly.
"They boost your confidence,"
she said. "I teamed new techniques,
what I need to make my running
better."
Their trip to Texas was a first for
SDHS athletes, according to high
school track coach Terry Johnston.
He said the Kitchener -Waterloo
Track Club allowed the girls to join
them for the event.
For Carly, a hurdler, the trip was
a chance to work with Canadian
national hurdles coach Brent
McFarlane.
Although Lori was the only
thrower at the camp she said there
was excellent training on boosting
confidence levels and warm-ups.
"They really stress the warm-up
and the cool -down," she said. "The
way we trained down there was a
lot different than hear, the way they
train down there is a lot beuer for
us."
Carly, 16, and Lori, 18, stayed at
a Holiday Inn near the airport
which was only five to ten minutes

CONFIDENT ATTITUDE - Seaforth District High Sch^oI track and field athletes Carly Price and Lori

from the track. Every day they were
at the track at 8:30 in the morning.
They trained side-by-side with
some of the top high school athletes
from Canada.
"The calibre was very high," said
Lori. "They were very elite ath-
letes."
While at the training camp the
high school athletes learned about
such concepts as visualization.
The two high school athletes are
vocal with their praise of the Royal
Canadian Legion.
"We would both like to express
our great thanks to the Legion,"
said Lori. "Without them I don't
know if I could have went."
Both Carly and Lori have been
involved in Legion track and field
programs. The Legion has also
sponsored track uniforms.
Track coach Terry Johnston says
the Legion has a long history of
supporting track.
"The Legion gives them financial
support, without that they wouldn't
have been able to go," he said.
Lori is in her OAC year at SDH$
but hopes to join a track club after
she leaves high school. Carly is
entering grade 12 next Year and will
be competing as a Senior.
She says it will be an adjustment
to compete as a Senior but hopes to
apply the techniques she learned in
Texas to her advantage.
Street name changes may be costly
What's in a name?
Apparently more than meets the
eye.
Seaforth had three George Streets,
George East, George North and
George South - none related or
close to one another - until the
town recently changed the name of
the latter to Lloyd Eisler Street. The committee is studying the town, as well as any that may exist

The suPerintendent said we can

His report adds included in the
