SCHOOL NEWS
The 'Snuggle up and Read'
World Book Campaign, was a huge
success and students raised enough
Money to buy a set of World Book
Encyclopedia and three smaller sets,
like the science library. Vice Princi-
pal•Helen Crocker was very pleased
with how the children did so much
reading. The Kindergarten class
learned this week that Mrs. Vivan
had a baby boy and his name is
William Aaron. They are looking
forward to the day she brings him
to school. Nikki and Andrea
VanderVeen get to take Bob the
hamster home for his two-week
holiday. Andy Pethick got to share
his birthday cake with his class
when his mom brought it to school.
I heard that it was very gopd and
there was enough left over for
afternoon snack.
In Mrs. Scott's grade three class
they have been taking about St.
Patrick's day and they learned
about the potato famine in Ireland,
discussed the folklore around lepre-
chauns, and they also made an Irish
stew and after eating it decided that
it was quite delicious.
The newly -formed Walton Com-
munity Hall Board has been busy
putting some of their ideas to work.
Exercise classes will begin down at
the hall April 3 - May 29. Sue
Hannon will be the instructor.
Classes go from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15
a.m. Mondays and Thursdays. If
anyone is interested they should call
JoAnn McDonald. Don't forget to
come out to the St. Patrick's Day
,Dance at the hall. Music will be
provided by the Tiffins. So if you
like the oldtime music you now

4-H club learns
about fashion wear
by JESSICA BURGESS
The `Fashionable 4-1-lers' was
decided as the name for the 4-H
club which has produced some
cool 'wearable art.'
On March 7 the club met at
Joan Stewarts home. After the
pledge was said and the next
meeting date was decided, the
girls who wanted to fabric -paint
separated from the tic -dye
group.
The fabric painting group
thought of ideas for their T-
shirts. After it was all planned,
they painted their design. Last
week the group got experience
with fabric paints.
Meanwhile, in the kitchen, a
rainbow of dyes were being
mixed up. The members rolled
up their T-shirts with clastics
and string and then the fun
part...dying!
The results of both types of
shirts was a very effective,
fashionable clothing article
which the members liked wear-
ing. It's Tots of fun to make
your own clothes and they can
be quite trendy. Making your
own apparel can produce a one -
of -a -kind look which costs much
less than expensive designers'
clothes.
the surrounding area attended the
annual St. Columban Irish Pub
Night on Saturday evening in the
,St. Columban Parish Hall.
The Beechwood Band provided
lots of Irish and Country music
which was enjoyed by everyone.
During intermission everyone joined
in singing many Irish and old time
favourites led by Father Hardy.
