Ringette team off to provincials
It was such a shock coach Kathy
O'Reilly still doesn't quite recall
exactly how it happened.
The Seaforth Stingers Junior A
Ringette team had been beaten by a
goal by Woolwich in the past two
Western Regionals, and trailed them
5-2 with eight minutes to go in this
year's final.
But the local girls all of a sudden
lived up to their name and scored
the final four goals to win it in
regulation.
That's why the Stingers are
heading for Sudbury as Westem
Region Champions at the Provincial
Ringette Championships on
Monday.
And they've got a good shot at it.
During this season the Stingers
played three of the teams they will
face in the opening round-robin.
They tied 5-5 and beat Markham 4-
3 at a tournament in Mariposa.
They beat Hamilton twice, 7-6 and
11-3, but they lost to Port Perry by
about three goals.
Keewatin, Sault. Ste. Marie and
the host, Valley East, are the other
teams competing for the junior title
in the tournament, Mar. 13 to 18.
The top three teams after the
round-robin advance. Two and three
play off, then meet the first -place
finisher for the championship.
"The team has been so close for
so long, its nice that they have
finally achieved," says O'Reilly
from Egmondville, who has
coached this team through the ranks
for the past half-dozen seasons.
Juniors are from 14 to 16 years -
old. Most of the Stingers have
played together since they were
nine, and they have only lost once
in 12 games since this season

LADIES AND MEN'S
BROOMBALL
MARCH 1, 1995
SOCIALITES 1 - PERTH 0
Perth women had the potential but
couldn't take advantage of the open
net. There's always next week,
guys. Socialites' Marg Henderson
drills the ball from the blue line arid--'
scores, quick passes from Tracey
Eckert and Liz Hunt. Great game
by both teams. Some people will do
anything to get their name in the
paper, right 'Sue Mc.'
PARR LINE 2 - WINTHROP 1
Winthrop's lone goal was scored
by Deb Murray who thanks Parr
Line for the pass and leaving the
net unattended, no help was needed
by Deb. Par Line's two quick goals
were scored by Cheryl Kruse and
Bev. Shea, a little assistance came
from Sandi Fremlin. Good luck to
the ladies' teams competing in the
Reginals in Palmerston.
GRADS 1 - EASY RIDERS 0
Riders were all over the Grads
with the play. Their only goal was
withdrawn because the refs said the
ball was put in by the body. 'Not,'
says 'Greg' but no arguing is
allowed, says Mr. Eckert. The
Grads' goal was scored by Martin
Wynja great pass by John Gories.
The Grads picked up the pace in
the last five minutes of the game
and managed to score the only goal.
In Ladies' Broomball on March 8,
1995 at 9 p.tn. - Parr Line vs
Winthrop; 9:50 p.m. - Perth vs
Socialites; and at 10:40 p.m. -
Dumpers vs Parr Line.
BROOMBALL
MARCH 2, 1995
KNIGHTS 3 - ROYALS 0
The Royals played had and their
goalie, Mr. Dearing, made plenty of
good saves. It's unfortunate three
snuck by him. Is this the real
Knights scoring this many goals?
Mr. Jeff Campbell was having a
good night as he scores _ two bril-
liant goals with Mr. Jeff Holman
scoring the first goal pretty quick,
passing by Paul Janmaat and Steve
Selves.
WINTHROP 5 - RUSTLERS 1
Rustlers' goal scored by quick -
draw 'Art Vecnstra', endurance
passing from Rick Elliott and Jeff
Burroughs. Winthrop men are
puzzled to have scorcd this many
goals. Double goals scored by Mike
Thomas, singles to Joe Ryan, Jerry
Bremner and Blaine Marks,
Lots of passing from Scott
Lconhardt, Dan McNichol, Dwayne
Pryce and Steve Knights. Winthrop
men outdid themselves this game.
DUMPERS 2 - PARR LINE 0
The Parr Linc men seemed to run
this whole game but no goals could
be achieved. Dumpers chalk up two
goals scored by Brett Finlayson and
Ron Pryce. A little assistance came
from Jerry Wright and Denise
Murray.
In Men's Broomball on March 9,
1995 at 9 p.m. - Royals vs Raiders;
9:50 p.m. - Grads vs Riders; and at
10:40 p.m. - Knights vs Winthrop.
STUNNING COMEBACK FOR STINGERS - The Seaforth Stingers Junior A Ringette Team scored four
goals in the last eight minutes of regulation time recently to defeat their old nemesis from Woolwich, who

this season. Back row, from left: Brenda DeJong (mngr), Kathy O'Reilly (coach), Julianne Crowley,

suitable for the smaller lots commonly available in the city.
An efficient floor plan ensures that the availahlc floor arca is comfortably
spacious as well as stylish. A Targe living room partially open to the dining
room creates a good sized atmosphere for entertaining, and features a bay
