For area couple Mike Scott and Arden
Farrow, the Goderich Municipal Airport was
the perfect place for their marriage.
"I guess it was just that, with us,
everything's so centered around aviation,"
Mike said. He has his pilot's licence and she
is working towards hers. also, her father is
an aircraft mechanic "who lives and
breathes airplanes," Mike adds.
"Everybody who knows us didn't know
what to expect anyway," Arden says. "When
we went to Germany a couple of years ago,
everybody thought we'd come back married
then."
"Ed Scruton [the airport manager] was
tremendous," Mike says. "He was just
tickled at the idea. And we asked Western
Air [about renting the plane]; they thought
it was a great idea."

They had, in fact, made arrangements to
be married 3,000 feet above sea level in a
six -seater plane, with the minister, best
man, maid of honour and pilot the only
others in the plane.
However, the weather didn't co-operate - it
started snowing heavily before they and
their guests had even arrived at the airport.
So they decided instead to hold the
ceremony in the airport lounge, with hors
d'oeuvres and champagne from Bluewater
Catering.
The atmosphere of the airport was
something Mike noticed several years ago
when he was taking flying lessons. Between
drop -outs and absenteeism, it wasn't
unusual for some of the classes to have
fewer than half a dozen people in them.
"So instead of holding class downstairs in
the cold, drafty classroom, we'd go upstairs
to the lounge and pull up chairs around the
