The Huron Expositor, 1995-02-22, Page 21By DAVID EMSLIE Clinton News -Record Staff Long before wedding plana are started, the groom -to -be has a big decision to make - just what type of engagement ring would be most fitting for his bride, and how much should be set aside for the purchase. According to David Anstett, president of the five -store Anstett Jewellers chain, prospective brides are still more likely to receive an engagement ring than their male counterparts. He noted that ,not very men, are the recipients of the rings given to symbolize a forthcoming wedding. Ansett has stores in Clinton, Goderich, Exeter, St. Marys and London. However, engagement rings for the bride-to-be remain an integral part of the wedding ritual, and Anstett noted, "A lot of traditional styles still sell very well." He noted solitaire rings continue to be popular, as do centre diamonds with shoulder or side diamonds. He added while Anstett stores carry a wide variety of engagement ring styles, "certainly the traditional are the more popular." A trend in ring purchasing that is also proving popular of late is matching sets of diamond engagement rings and wedding bands, Anstett said, noting that such rings are designed as a set. Jeweller David Anstett understands the an engagement ring. "They're very strong," he said of the matched sets, adding, "it is certainly a popular way to go." SMART BUYING In buying an engagement ring, Anstett noted that smart shoppers should be more concerned with the quality of the product, than its price. The old rule of thumb that a ring should cost approximately two months salary still stands, he said, but he added that the two month rule is just a guideline.
