Long before wedding plana
are started, the groom -to -be
has a big decision to make -
just what type of
engagement ring would be
most fitting for his bride,
and how much should be set
aside for the purchase.
According to David
Anstett, president of the
five -store Anstett Jewellers
chain, prospective brides are
still more likely to receive an
engagement ring than their
male counterparts. He noted
that ,not very men, are the
recipients of the rings given
to symbolize a forthcoming
wedding.
Ansett has stores in
Clinton, Goderich, Exeter,
St. Marys and London.
However, engagement
rings for the bride-to-be
remain an integral part of
the wedding ritual, and
Anstett noted, "A lot of
traditional styles still sell
very well."
He noted solitaire rings
continue to be popular, as do
centre diamonds with
shoulder or side diamonds.
He added while Anstett
stores carry a wide variety of
engagement ring styles,
"certainly the traditional are
the more popular."
A trend in ring purchasing
that is also proving popular
of late is matching sets of
diamond engagement rings
and wedding bands, Anstett
said, noting that such rings
are designed as a set.

"They're very strong," he
said of the matched sets,
adding, "it is certainly a
popular way to go."
SMART BUYING
In buying an engagement
ring, Anstett noted that
smart shoppers should be
more concerned with the
quality of the product, than
its price. The old rule of
thumb that a ring should
cost approximately two
months salary still stands,
he said, but he added that
the two month rule is just a
guideline.
