What you need to get married in Ontario
Getting legally married

just saying 'I do' at the
altar. One often overlooked,
but very necessary task is
that of obtaining a
marriage licence.
1b help make the
wedding plans go just a
little smoother, here's a list
of the requirements for
tying the knot.
• Anyone who is 18 years
of age or older and meets
with the requirements of
the Prohibited Degrees of
Affinity and Consanguinity
(the blood relationships
between relatives who are
disallowed to marry), may
obtain a licence or be
married under the
authority of the publication
of banns.
• A minor, 16 to 18 years of
age, may be married if he
or she obtains the
necessary written consent

Marriage. (A judge may use
his discretion and waive
this form if the case is
presented to him).
Those who are under the
influence of intoxicating
liquor or drugs, and those
who are mentally ill, will
not be granted licence to
marry or have a marriage
solemnized.

issued by the clerk of any

an audible voice by the
minister during divine
service.

that both partners must be in
the habit of attending
worship at the same church,
or, if they both regularly
attend different churches, the
