Foodgrains bank starts February drive
On Feb. 19 the churches in the
Seaforth area will again be
having their donation drive to
raise money for the Seaforth
growing project.

Local
Legion donates to charity bowl-a-thon
Hensall Legion members held
their annual meeting Feb. 8. A
motion was passed to make a
donations to the Big Brothers and
Big Sisters bowl-a-thon. Also a
donation was made to Melinda
Hovius to assist her in meeting her
expenses with Encounters with
Canada, when she goes to Ottawa.
Feb. 14, the Legion and Ladies'
Auxiliary will bc entertaining the
residents at the Queensway Nursing
Home with a Valentine's party.
Public Speaking will bc held at
the Legion Feb. 21.
Feb. 11, in spite of poor weather
conditions, there was a good turnout

his Life Membership at a later date.
Rev. Henry Armen conducted
services at Hensall United Church,
this past Sunday. Doug Klopp was
the organist. The greeters were
Deanna and Dave Brock, the ushers
were Jeff Butson and Kaye Jocobc.
Communion was served and the
confmunioif hymn sung. Rev.
Annen's message was "Broken
Hydrants". Trustees presented to the
congregation were Dave Brock, Kay
Mock and Jerry Drysdale.
Bible Study will be held at the
Hensall United Church Feb. 21 at
1:30 p.m.
The Official Board will meet Feb.
15. The committees meet at 7:30
p.m. the full board insets at 8 p.m.
All members are urged to attend.

Mitchell, who was chosen 'Mitchell
Citizen of the Ycar' at a banquet
and award night on Saturday, Feb.
4 at the Mitchell Legion. Ted was
complimented on his work with
Mitchell Minor Sports, Branch 128
of the Mitchell Legion, co-workers
at the .Mitchell and District Credit
Union, and with all the people of
Mitchell. He was presented with the
Doug Ludwig Citizen of the Ycar
Award by Jaycees' president Rob
Sawyer, and received accolades
from Maribeth Nevin, Rick Vivian
and Mayor Hugh McCaughey, and

Heritage Day, held on Feb. 11 at
Mitchell Community Centre was
very successful and well -attended in
spite of stormy weather!
Early German music was enjoyed
by all, and Swiss pancakes were
delicious! Among the many dis-
plays were spinning, train collec-
tions and a very educational and
interesting.hobby by a Mitchell man
- Clayton Harris, who did caning
chairs. Old chairs look like new
when Clayton finishes thein. This
Heritage Day ,is always enjoyed by
all.
Deepest sympathy of the com-
munity is extended to the Laverty
and Givlin families on the loss of,
Teresa Laverty whose funeral was
in Stratford, St. Joseph's Church,
last Saturday. Sympathy to Teresa's
husband, Wilfred Laverty, and to
their daughter, Bcrnardine
Nicholson and husband Ron. Sym-
pathy also to all the Givlin families.
Sympathy is also extended to
Shirley Morrison, Kinkora, and to
all the Morrison families on the
death of Leonard Morrison, whose
funeral will be held at St. Patrick's
Church, Kinkora. Our love and
prayers arc with you all.

Hoven, Seaforth, (daughter of Cor
and Gerda Vanden Hoven), a 4-H
member was a winner in the Junior
Division of the Ambcr Underwood
Memorial 4-11 News Report Com-
petition of the Ontario 4-1-1 Council.
Crista won the award of S100 for
her story on the 'Battery Blitz'.

man which kept the score down to
a low margin. However Parr Line
picked up speed in the second half
as goals were scored by Sandi
