Legion honours members' long service
Last Saturday the annual Honours
and Awards Dinner was held and
despite the terrible weather there
was a very good tum out. Dinner
was served by the Ladies Auxiliary
and as always was a delicious meal.
The ladies were thanked by 2nd
Vice President Linda Gridzak.
Entertainment, before the dinner
and after, was supplied by Joe
Higgins on the honky conk piano.
Special guests were Deputy Zone
C-1 Commander Gordon Dc Jong
and Mrs. De Jong, Ladies Auxiliary
Zone C-1 Commander Eva Brown
and Mr. Brown, Mayor of Seaforth
Irwin Johnston and Mrs. Johnston.

bers of the auxiliary for long ser-
vice: Janet Rice, 10 years; Mary
Ann Smith, 20 years; Thelma

ated 11 new members into the
Legion. Congratulations to you all
we hope to see you around the
branch.
Awards for long scrvicc were
made to members with 10, 15, 20,
25 and 30 years of membership. 40 -
year pins were given to Gerald
Groothuis and Don MacRae. 50 -
year pins to our veteran members
were presented to Jack Eisler,
Hartman Hiusscr, Frank Phillips,
Bill Wilbee, H.P. Chesney, Jack
Cleary, Ken Coombs, Jake Cornish,
Clayton Dennis, Bob Govier, Ken
Ritchie, Don "Chip" Wood, Don
Keys, Mac McCreight and Mel
Merriam. Congratulations and
thanks to all of these veterans for
the long scrvicc to the branch. We
are very lucky to have so many
veterans still active.
P.R.O. Barbara Scott made the J
presentation of a Certificate of
Appreciation to Tiin Cumming of
The Huron Cxposilor. This was for
the great cooperation there has been
with Tim and his staff, and the
great coverage and space for my
column given freely each week.
Everyone in the Legion appreciates
this.
The Branch Public Speaking
contest will be held next Sunday
Feb. 19. Registration will be at 1:30
p.m. with the contest beginning at
2. This, is always a very interesting
afternoon.- Come out and support
our young contestants.
