Social assistance numbers decline
The number of people requiring
social assistance in Huron County is
down resulting in a substantial
saving for taxpayers, Seaforth
Reeve William Benneu, who is the
town's representative on County
Council, reported to the regular
meeting of Seaforth Council. Since
a new system got into gear last
August, 64 people have been placed
in jobs who, if they had stayed on
welfare would have cost provincial

Dearing brothers
in goaltending
duel in broomball
continued from pg. 9
The `Brothers' battle the goal
tending squad, as Rob and Steve
Dearing are both goalies but on
opposite teams. Unfortunately, the
Royals had problems buying a goal
as nothing got by the Rustler's
goalie `Steve' the 'Wild Man'! Yes!
this is the `real' Red Rustlers who
have a win as goals were accumu-
lated by Don King, Art Vecnstra,
and swinging Dave Vannestc, a
kccn pass from Andrew Kaastra.
I'm not sure which 'brother' had to
buy the first round for the win or
the loss but they arc both 'great
goalies'.

GRADS 12 - RAIDERS 1
The Raiders have a minute to go
in the second last half of play when
`smiley' dives across the Ice swings
and drills the ball into the net wow!
What a super goal - great pass by
Verne Gervais. Our Grads seem to
have a bit of a lead on goals for a
win - as goals were chalked up by
Mac O'Neill, Martin Wynja, Tony
Van Den Hcuvel and Jerry Burtch,
a few passes by Chris Gories, Gary
Ver Hoog and Al Wynja.
EASY RIDERS 2 (`RAIDERS')
KNIGHTS 1
What, the Raiders are playing a
second game and win this one. Oh
! I guess that's just their shirts
running around out there and look-
ing pretty nifty as goals are being
scored by Ed Van Miltenburg
(sweater number better known as
Adrian Brasher). Second goal for
Raiders - 'OH' I mean Riders' #9
Darrel Eckert (also known as Dave
Hulley, for the Raiders). Quick
passes by Riders Rob McGregor,
Jerry Zwep and Gary Souch (The
real Raiders were great sports to
lend their sweaters) Say Thank you
"Riders" Hey! Eddy how's the
noise? Are you supporting a
'shiner' now! Great game by both
teams.

and county taxpayers roughly
S7,000 each; resulting in estimated
savings of $448,000, the Reeve's
figures show. He later elaborated
there were 549 people in the county
on social assistance, last October,
compared to 624 at the same time a
year previous, out of a total
population of roughly 58,000.
Huron ranks near the bottom of the
provincial list when it comes to
welfare recipients as a percentage
of population. The province picks
up 80 per cent of the tab for social
assistance, with the county paying
for the other 20 per cent.

Shovelling snow back on to
cleared Seaforth roads is a "no no".
The Seaforth Transportation and
Environment Committee directed
Superintendent John Forrest to
place an advertisement reminding
residents of an existing bylaw
regarding this which provides for
fines of up to 52,000. The
superintendent reported shovelling
snow or ice back on cleared
sidewalks, boulevards or roadways
can interfere with traffic.
Seaforth Council approved for
payment a final invoice of $2,947,
on the recommendation of the
Seaforth Local Architecture
Conservation Advisory Committee,
for summer painting at Lome Villa
at 92 Goderich St. W. LACAC
secretary Cathy Garrick noted that
since the town only received 98 per
cent of the grant Ironies applied
for, the applicants would only be
receiving 98 per cern of eligible
grant money.

At its regular meeting Jan. 10
Seaforth Council approved the
appointments of Ralph Smith,
representing Tuckersmith Township,
and Seaforth representatives Tom
Shannon, James Sloan and Jack
Turnbull to a steering committee
that will deal with infrastructure
grant restoration and renovations to
the Seaforth Library. Seaforth's
Local Architecture Conservation
Advisory Committee has also
expressed an interest and will be
represented on the steering
committee.
Part of Seaforth Bylaw No. 26
has been repealed and substituted
with : "when approved signs are on
display at the entrance to Town, no
person shall park any vehicle on
any street in the Town of Seaforth
between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6
a.m. from Nov. 1 to April 15,
inclusive, in any given year.... ( and
Schedule 8) all streets, both sides,
from Nov. 1 to April 15 inclusive,
