MIDGET ACTION Seaforth goalie Chad Lamont only let in one
goal in the 4-1 victory over the Mt. Forest Midgets on Sunday at
TIM CUMMING PHOTO
the Seaforth District Arena. Seaforth goals were scored by Mark
Vandooren, Jason Smith, Jason Henderson and Gord Bjerg.
Tykes felled twice on the road
The Seaforth Tykes endured a
disappointing weekend on the road
dropping two games.
On Saturday, they travelled to
Zurich and were beaten 13-5. Ryan
Wilson scored two goals for
Seaforth and Mathew Carnochan
neued the hat trick. Melissa Marion
played a good game in goal. Sun-
day saw action in Hensall where an
improved opposition won 11-3.
Robert Johnston gave a good effort
as goalie with the line of Tanner
Glanville, Mathew Carnochan and
Ryan Wilson accounting for the
scoring. Assists went to Chris
Cronin, Joel Schenk, Owen
O'Reilly, Scott Dalton, Curtis Ryan,
Patrick Kale, Cory Chappel, Cody
Machon, Tyler Carruthers, Shawn
Brooker, Melissa Marion and Mark
Wilbee.
Cents win three games
Seaforth juniors now fourth. in division
The Seaforth Centenaires had a
good week.
They won all three games, had
another postponed because of the
weather, and leapfrogged over
Belmont into fourth place in the
Western Division of the Ontario
Hockey Association's Junior
"D"evelopment League.
Two of those wins came over the
Bombers. Seaforth took a 3-1 win
home from Belmont Saturday night,
after a 5-2 victory at the Seaforth
and District Community Centres
Friday night. Last Wednesday a
game at Lambeth was postponed
because of the blustery conditions,
but the night before at Parkhill the
Centenaires thrashed the hometown
North Middlesex Stars 9-2, the
most goals they have scored in a
game all season.
The Centenaires now have a 15-'
13-2 record and are unbeaten in six
games, one point behind the Exeter
Hawks in third and now two 15oints
up on Belmont in the standings.
They trail the pace -setting Port
Stanley Lakers by nine points.
If the Cents, who have 10 games
remaining, can stay in the division's
top four they will be guaranteed
home ice advantage in the first
round of the playoffs. The team has
finished with a .500 or better record
in only four of their 21 seasons, last
season when they reached the
division final being one of them.
The Seaforth Juniors host Mt.
Brydges in their next start Friday at
8:30 p.m., before road games ai
Exeter Saturday night at 8:30 and
Lambeth Sunday at 7:15.
For goaltender Tim Swan the
weekend wins over Belmont were a
vindication of sorts. He had been
riding the pine since a disastrous
outing against the same Bombers in
Seaforth Dec. 16. But he shone

with their prettiest goal of the week
Saturday at Belmont - a tick, tack,
toe passing play from Jason
Dunseith to Jason Hayter to Tim
Barton, who went upstairs over
Burt with a defenceman draped all
over him to give the Cents a 1-0
lead at the two minute mark.
Dunseith and Steve McInally on the
powerplay later rounded out the
Seaforth scoring.

Matthison scored into an empty net
to give the Cents the win.
The recent return of Matthison to
Seaforth's blueline brigade is a big
reason the Centenaires have settled
down back thernd only given up
11 goals in their last five games,
allowing Dave Nahrgang and Swan
to live up to their early season
promise and lower their goals
against averages dramatically.
Tuesday at Parkhill was a bit of a
"cakewalk" as Dunseith and
McInally led the way with two
goals each. Tim Barton, Jeff
Volland, Brandon Corrivcau, Mike
Lauwaert and Chad Papple got the
others. .

Bantams make
Silver Stick
championship, but
lose to St. Marys
The Seaforth Bantam hockey
team participated in the Silver Stick
at Watford last week and made it
into the championship game before
being eliminated by St. Marys.
The first game on Jan. 2 was
against Kingsville. It was a rough
game with 32 minutes in penalties,
the majority to Kingsville team.
Seaforth won 5 to 1 with goals by
Everett Smith, Derek Smith, Scott
Van Dooren and Bruce Griffin (2).
Assists were earned by Brandon
Nash (3), Jered Munro and Everett
Smith.
The next game was against
sdedn- a ??pQys had already met
with flus at at the Clinton
tournament and had been on the
losing end of 2-0 score. This time it
was to be a different story as
Charles Robertson was magnificent
in net, earning a shutout. Mark Van
Dooren, assisted by Jered Munro
and Brandon Nash, scored the first
goal and Everett Smith netted the
next goal on a breakaway.
St. Marys was the competition in
the championship. A fast -skating
. game with few penalties and no
score at the end of the second
period had all the fans on the edge
of their seats. Unfortunately, the
Seaforth boys couldn't find the net
against the hard -checking opposi-
tion. Although Charles played a
great game, eventually the puck
slipped behind him and Seaforth
was unable to respond. With an
empty net goal, the final score was
St. Marys 3 and Seaforth 0.
The boys on the Bantam team this
year are Charles Robertson and
Josh Dietz as goalies. Mark and
Scott Van Dooren, Derek Smith,
Scott Henderson, Everett Smith,
Kevin Meidinger, Jeremey
McNichol, Brandon Nash as for-
wards. Michael Murray, Jered
Munro, Craig Somerville and Bruce
Griffin are the defence.
Affiliated players from the Ban-
tam II team often play also. They
are Jon Bjerg, Evan Eckert, Tim
Sills, and Jason Hulley.
Coaches are Dave and ' Darren
Akey and the trainer is Trevor
Fortune.

on Jr. All -Stars
A graduate of the Seaforth and
District Minor Hockey Association
now playing junior in Mitchell is
going to the Ontario Hockey
Association Junior "D"evelopment
League All-Star Game at Lucan
later this month.
Adam Agar, of RR 2 Seaforth, is
in his rookie year with the Mitchell
Hawks, and getting a lot of ice time
because Mitchell's All-Star goalie
last season, Darcy Ballantyne, only
recently returned to the lineup of
the defending champions after
recovering from major injuries as
the result of a car accident last
summer.
The three goalies in each division
with the lowest goals against
averages by the end of December
automatically qualify for the annual
All-Star game, which will be held
Jan. 21. Agar, 18, is third with a
respectable 3.83 average according
to the league's latest statistical
release, behind the goalkeepers
from Port Stanley and Lambeth.
Agar has played more minutes
between the pipes than any other
goalie in the West, except for
Belmont's Ian Burt.
He played on four Ontario Minor
Hockey Association "CC"
championship teams while in the
Seaforth minor system and was the
goalie on two local teams that won
the International Silver Stick, twice
winning outstanding goaltender
honours in that annual OMHA
tournament,
