The Huron Expositor, 1995-01-11, Page 66 -THE HURON EXPOSITOR, January 11, 1995 Education INCREASING SELF ESTEEM - Senior students at Seaforth Public School participated in a True Colours seminar fast Thursday to learn about different personality types and how they interact. What colour are you? Students learn their colour groups at school BY GREGOR CAMPBELL Expositor Staff Senior students at Seaforth Public School spent Thursday morning trying to figure out if they were more orange, blue, green or gold. It was a True Colours basic skills course co-ordinated by Huron County Board of Education social worker Val Millson who says the interaction of these colours "makes the world go round." The four colours correspond to four basic personality types, and apparently all of us are unique combinations of the four, with one colour dominating our characters. The aim of the seminar, developed in California, was to have fun while increasing student self-esteem, and get them feeling good about themselves and others. By far the majority of youngsters determined they were orange personalities, which made sense considering their age and abundant energy levels. Oranges - are adventurous and like action, naps aren't on their agendas. Blues were the second most numerous. They like hugs and harmony, loving and caring. Golds like to be on time, are organized and predictable. Followed by greens, the detached, curious and investigative type. There is a lot of pressure on this age group by peers to conform to be accepted. But all these colours are good, and all of us are combinations of the four, Millson stressed, and the successful interplay of these personality types in ourselves and with others makes society and situations work well, variety being the spice .of life. Hopefully the public school students can use their new insights into their inner selves to improve their interactions with friends, parents and teachers, according to the seminar outline. Seaforth Branch 156 of the Royal Canadian Legion . helped to co- sponsor the True Colours seminar, along with pupils at the school. Millson says she recently held a similar session with about 75 teenagers for South Huron District High School students at Exeter, who might also use insights gained on the day to better get along with their employers. The founder of the program, Don Lowry, says that by knowing and accepting your True Colours, and others, you can "participate in a unique way in improving the quality of life for every individual." TRUE COLOURS - Val Millson, a social worker with the Huron County Board of Education, co-ordinated a seminar on personalties and how they interact at Seaforth Public School last Thursday. rrrgweattiou pv®wlgvN BY MARTY BEDARD Table tennis, cards, carpet bowling planned Last week's Senior Shuffleboard winners after four games were: Women: J. In fact it was only propos- ing a reduction in the number of people 'required for a quorum from seven to a majority of committee members. 36 All Deposits Insured Within Limits Rates subject To Verification 5 YEAR Annual 8 .3.(A, RRSP r? 8(1/ 2 Year RRSP 5 1,, Seto 89 Days 734% .Y Comp Annual Save an extra 40% in tabes on your RRSP contribution his year !‚we5bTeren1re Investment & Tax Planning Secure Investment Products ... from people you can trust SEAFORTH 96 Main St. 527-0420 r, YES, I'd like to know more about how I can do better with, Working Ventures Canadian Fund Inc.
