Shown here are Bill Thibert, Chief Executive Officer of Seaforth Community Hospital, Dr. Mark Woldnik, Dr. Janet Zettel and Seaforth Medical Clinic head nurse Gwen Devereaux. Doctors open Brussels clinic BY TIM CUMMING Expositor Editor People in Brussels and area will have more opportunities to see a doctor in their own community due to the Brussels-Seaforth Medical Clinic which opened last month. Dr. Janet Zettel will be seeing patients on Mondays and Fridays from 9-12 to begin and Dr. Mark Woldnik will see patients on Tues- days and Thursdays from 9-12. "These are just starting hours," said Gwen Devereaux, head nurse of Seaforth Medical Clinic. "Depending on how busy we are we will expand those hours." The need for medical service right in Brussels was increased after Dr. W. Wong, a Wingham doctor who served patients in Brussels, passed away recently. Currently two other doctors from Wingham are spending a few hours seeing patients in Brussels. They are Dr. Brian Hanlon and Dr. J. K. McGregor. The new clinic, which is located on Turnberry Street, fills a void of service in Brussels, according to Dr. Janet ZeUel. "There's been a need for a stable presence here," said Dr. Zettel. "Hopefully we'll be able to cots-, tinue to provide that." r She said "people have been very open and receptive to us being here." Dr. Zettel estimates 100 people have transferred their records to the office in Brussels. She says she is already very busy with several mornings already fully booked. The clinic opened on Nov. 10 and an official opening reception was held on Thursday. It featured such dignitaries as Brussels Reeve Gored Workman. There is a natural flow between Seaforth and Brussels, said Dr. Woldnik. "The whole idea was to reach out to people who can't get out, people with young kids, elderly people who we would normally sec in Local man hopes to start motor sports club for young people BY TIM CUMMING Expositor Editor A Seaforth man hopes a Youth Motor Sports Club will provide an enjoyable activity for local young people. Henry DeGroof is holding an organizational meeting at his home today (Wednesday) to see if there is interest in forming such a club. The group would be open to all ages but it would have a special emphasis on youth. "My main idea is to get the kids off the street and interested in something without having to dig into their pockets for money," said DeGroof. The club might involve seeing videos about car racing, working on vehicle -related projects and learning proper vehicle safety rules. The club organizer notes that young people are going to be driving cars soon and a motor sports club could teach them safe attitudes toward vehicles. Anybody who is interested in forming a Seaforth Youth Motor Sports Club is welcome to attend an organizational meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. at 172 Isabella St. in Seaforth. Anyone who wants more infor- mation on the club can contact Henry-at.(519) 527-0614. Seaforth anyway," he said. When service leaves a small municipality like Brussels for an extended period of time it's hard to replace, said Dr. Woldnik. He said it's important to maintain a continu- ity of medical service in Brussels. In the long run he would like to see dietary personnel, midwives and nurse practitioners at the Brussels clinic. "Eventually we would like to see full services here." The Brussels-Seaforth Medical Clinic may increase traffic to Seaforth Community Hospital as doctors refer patients to the -hospi- tal, said Bill Thibert, Chief Execu- tive Officer. "Obviously there will be increased activity, we're starting to notice it in our laboratory," said Thibert. "We look forward to being of ser- vice to the people in Brussels." Dr. Zettel said it will also be good for the local pharmacy to have doctors right in the village. The doctors will be able to do routine medical checks as well as drawing blood to be taken to the laboratory at Seaforth Community Hospital. More -complex procedures will take place at Seaforth Community Hospital. ••• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • 1 • • • • • • • • • • •• • • •• • • • • • •• ••••••• • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • 1 • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • HOMUTH, TAYLOR & PARTNERS Chartered Accountants Dave Vantyghem, BBE Homuth, Taylor and Partners are pleased to announce that Dave Vantyghem has joined their professional staff, located at 71 Main St. N., Exeter.
