Isobel Rogerson took charge of the meeting. Fourteen members attended. It was moved that Isobel be first Vice. The Senior's Card Party will be held at the arena, November 21 at 7:30 p.m. The Seniors are invited to the Zurich Seniors' 5th Anniversary. The Hensall Seniors will have their Christmas Dinner at the United Church, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. Winners of the top cards were Vera Smale, Stewart Blackwell, Hilda Payne, Kirk Kuik, lone hands Isobel Rogerson. Martha Rooseboom. Greta and Kirk Kuik served a delicious lunch. Hensall Legion Auxiliary President Iva Reid was presented with her Auxiliary Life Membership and pin, after the November 11th Remembrance dinner. Life member of the Auxiliary, Jean Munn and Zone Commander of Zone C-1, Eva Brown, made the presentation and congratulated Iva on her years of dedicated service. The Friendship Circle met Monday morning Nov. 7 at. the Hensall United Church, to pack a bale of good used clothing. These arc being sent to the Friendship House in Goderich and mission Services in London. When the group was finished packing the bale the women made 70 Christmas placemats to be given to Queensway Nursing Home for the enjoyment of the patients. At noon hour a pot luck luncheon was served by Marg Cole and Mary Brintnell Helen McLean welcomed 16 members and four guests, each answering the roll call with their favourite place in Canada. Kay Elder opened her devotional with the 96th Psalm. Her devotional was taken from a sermon by Marlene Black, a lay preacher and friend of Kay's. It compared lives to the making of a quilt. A beautiful log cabin quilt was displayed at the front of the room. Guest Delores Shapton told the group about 1 Hensall by Liz Sangster 262-2715 quilting and displayed an antique quilt. The fall board meeting of the Huron South District Women's Institute was held in the United Church with President June Stewart welcoming everyone with a reading. F.W.I.O. Board Director, Laurine McIntosh, gave a report on the Adelaide Hoodless and Erland Lee Homes as well as the new headquarters in Guelph. Delores Shapton is the new Area President and reported the Curator Workshop is to be August 8, 1995 at the Goderich Township Hall in Holmesville. The Area Convention will be Oct. 20, 1995 in Kirkton. Lois Hodgins presented the Nominations Report with the new slate to come in at the District Annual may 18, 1995. On Sunday, Nov. 6, Hensall Legion Br. 468 held its Remembrance Day Service at Hensall United Church. After a short parade to the cenotaph from the church, wreaths were placed for the Province of Ontario by Comrade Jean Munn and M.P.P. Thompson & Sons - Comrade John Skes; Hensall Co-op - Susan Riley; Michael O'Connor Funeral Homes - Michael O'Connor; McTaggart's Food Market - Ron McTaggart Dutch Canadian Community - Albert and Ben Hovius; England's R.A.F. Regiment - Comrade Ron Packham; William's Hairstyling - Kathy Delbridge; Liquor Control Board - Comrade Howard Ackins; Bank of Commerce - Brenda Dayman; Bank of Montreal - Marty Dick; Hensall Brownies and Guides - Laura Parsons and Natasha Moody; Hensall Cubs and Beavers - Liz McAuslan and John Kinsman. Refreshments were served afterwards at the Legion. Nov. 9 the Legion held its regular monthly meeting. A new Associate member, Sadie Craig, was installed. Donald Orr was also welcomed to the branch by transfer. A motion was made to contribute two hours of ice time for Family Skating during the holiday season, it was also decided to sponsor a Zurich Pee Wee hockey team to Blyth in December. A donatidn was made to Huron Safe Homes for Youth. Upcoming events at the Legion: Nov. 18 is pub night with the 'Swinging Seniors' entertaining. Nov. 26 - Come out and play euchre at the Legion at 2 p.m.; Nov. 11 - the Annual Remembrance Day banquet was held at the Hensall Community Centre, with good attendance. Rev. John Verhoog of Exeter was guest speaker. After a delicious dinner, served by the women of Dashwood, greetings were given by M.P.P. Paul Klopp, Reeve Cecil Pepper, Township of Hay Reeve Lionel Wilder, Township of Tuckersmith Deputy - Reeve Bob Broadfoot and Zone C-1 Commander Eva Brown of Seaforth. Following this, 50 -year lapel pins, representing the end of WW II, were presented to all the veterans. Members of the Hensall Legion would like to congratulate Ladies' Auxiliary President Iva Reid on being awarded her Life Membership to Ladies' Auxiliary to Branch 468. This award was presented to her by Zone Commander Eva Brown. Rev. Henry Annen conducted services at Hensall United, this past Sunday, Doug Klopp was the Walton remembers veterans The Walton Public School had its own Remembrance Day service with each class participating. The grade three class .recited 'In Flanders Fields'; grade twos did a poem called 'Remembrance Day'; Grade 4 did a reading called, 'The Poppy' and sang, 'Where have all the Flowers Gone'; Grade 1 sang a song called 'Peace for my World' and recited the poem, 'Ring around the World'; The JK/K sang two songs, 'Can a Little Child Like Me' and 'Soldiers and Sailors'. Ross Bennett, representing the Brussels Legion, was invited to speak. One of the children asked him if he knew anyone who died in the war. Ross told them about a friend he had made at Training Camp, a friend who did go over to fight. Ross himself was injured at Training Camp and didn't go over. His friend was killed on D -Day. Novice tournament honours memory of hockey volunteer A Novice Hockey Tournament in Scaforth will be held in mem- ory of Peter Flanagan, who dedicated much time and enthusiasm to children's hockey. At the time of his sudden passing he was a director of the Scaforth and District Minor Hikkey Association as well as an active coach and trainer. He strived to provide fun and com- petition for the youth of the community. The Peter Flanagan Memorial Novice Hockey Tournament will be held at the Seaforth and Dis- trict Community Centres this Saturday, Nov. 19 and Sunday. Nov. 20. Residents arc urged to come and support the toumament and see eight and nine year olds in great competition. The schedule for the Red Division on Saturday begins with London playing Listowel at 9 a.m., followed by Georgetown vs. Kincardine at 10 a.m., Hcspeler vs. Port Elgin at 11 a.m. and Parkdale vs. Ingersoll at 12 noon. The consolation championship will be held at 5:30 and the championship game at 6:30. On Sunday morning at 9 a.m. Scaforth will take on Parkhill to begin Blue Division play fol- lowed by Exeter vs. St. Thomas at 10 a.m. Elma-Logan plays Lucan at 11 a.m. followed by Chesley vs. Thedford at 12 noon. The Consolation Championship takes place at 5:30 and Cham- pionship Game at 6:30. There are 16 teams taking pert in the two days of the touma- ment. Each day is separate. He encouraged the kids to become peace makers to start right here at home, in the school yards and everywhere. "Then maybe we will have peace in our world.' Quina,Gowan, Nicholas Giller, Nathan DeWit, Tina Bueckert, Gerrid Dalton, Greg Bowers, Michael Dietz and Kayla Bishop, each representing their classes, layed wreaths at the Cross that was set up in front of the activity room. Rev. Banks said a prayer and The Last Post was played and everyone in the school observed one minu$e of silence. Jay Cochrane and Trisha McClure went to Brussels to fay wreaths at the Cenotaph. Also representing Walton School was Nathan De Wit, Heather Dietz, Adam McKichan and Lindsay McNichol. On Wed. Nov. 16 the W.I. will be tempting everyone's stomach with their delicious Roast Beef Dinner, starting at. 11:30 going until 1:00 at the Hall. The community wishes to congratulate Nicole and Ron Stevenson who were married this Saturday and Duff's United Church. organist. Usher were Raye Jacobe and Bill Fuss, the greeter was Jury Drysdale. The message was 'Sinner or Saint'. The following new members were welcomed by transfer: Peter and Deb Timmerman, Dan and Wendy Reid, Bob and Helen Breen and Murray Craig. The Friendship Circle Ladies sent nine boxes to Mission services in London and 12 to Friendship house in Goderich. The women appreciated all donations to this worthwhile project. The 108th Anniversary of Hensel! United will take place Nov. 20. The guest speaker will be Sheila Duffin. Lunch will follow the service. Hensall residents are reminded that leaf collection has been completed for 1994. SDHS senior girls in Huron finals Seaforth District High School's senior girls' basketball team has made it to the Huron finals and hosts Goderich this (Wednesday) afternoon at 2 p.m. for the championship. It should be a close game too, as the rivals split two games during the regular season, Goderich won by three points in one of them and Seaforth took the other by five. On Friday the SDHS junior girls host St. Marys at 2 p.m. in a challenge to see who goes to the WOSSA "A" finals at Dorchester on Nov. 26. The senior girls have already qualified for that competition.
