McGrath * Mary McGrath * 1 Michael McGrath * FRANCIS MICHAEL McGRATH* Francis Michael McGrath was called to active naval duty on Feb. 21, 1944 and was discharged on Jan. 29, 1946. A German sub was surrendered to his ship during his service. (A.Y) McLEAN A.Y. McLean, former publisher of The Huron Expositor and member of the Canadian Parliament, among many other accomplishments, was born in Seaforth in 1909 and served four years in the Royal Canadian Airforce at Eastern Air Command headquarters in Halifax, retiring as a squadron leader. It was during the war years that Mr. McLean met his wife, the former Winifred Spurr, who herself served with the air force as a flight officer in Canada, Newfoundland and Labrador from 1942-46. Mr. McLean became a Legion President, was made a member of the order of the British Empire and awarded an MBE, and also was one of five Canadian delegates to the 7th General Assembly to the United Nations. Both Mr. McLean and his wife arc now deceased. Hugh McMillan * Joseph M. McMillan * Miles McMillan Tom Melady THOMAS R. MELADY Thomas R. Melady - Flight Ser- geant R.C.A.F. in "Battle Dress" is shown beside a Spitfire Aircraft which he flew in the 1939-45 War. Serving with R.A.F. #73 operational Training Unit during February, 1944, Desert Air Force, Abusuien, Egypt. Above his right shoulder is a 20 mm cannon, and near his left hand is pictured the taped over opening of a .303 machine gun. On the wing of the aircraft rests a parachute, a dingy, and a flying helmet. He served in Italy, May to Sep- tember, 1944 with #417 R.C.A.F., City of Windsor Squadron. He is the son of Frank and Cecelia Melady of St. Columban, Ontario. He now lives in Goderich with his wife Teresa. They had eight children, two of whom are deceased.
