Ken Lingelbach
KEN LINGELBACH
Ken Lingelbach was born and
raised in East Zorra Twp. Oxford
County, 6 miles southeast of
Tavistock. He graduated from
Stratford Business College 1941.
He worked for Massey -Harris parts
Dept. till 1941. He feels his biggest
contribution came when he worked
at Ont. Forgings (branch of Steleo)
in Hamilton manufacturing 150 lb.
naval and 80 Ib. anti-aircraft shells
in 1942, officially joining R.C.A.F.
in Aug. 1942, commenced training
March, 1943 at Galt Aircraft
school.
He took basic training in the
summer of 1943 at Toronto Man-
ning Depot further training in Aero
Engine Mechanics at St. Thomas
Aircraft School (now Psychiatric
Hospital). In Oct. 1943 he was
stationed at Desoronto flying
school, as a training instrument
flying (servicing aircraft) In Oct.
1944 was posted overseas to No. 6
Bomber Command in Yorkshire,
until end of war. Worked on pro-
pellers and constant speed units
volunteered for service in Far East,
but when that theatre ended, he was
still in England. He helped close up
Air Drome and then was posted to
another base in Yorkshire which
was kept in operational readiness in
case of need during early
occupational operations in
Germany. Repatriated home in
March, 1946, discharged in May
1946.
He was a really easy task, having
experienced few dangerous
situations, of a military nature. A
lot of fun times and a lot of boring_.
time after operations teased trying
to put in time, waiting to come
home.

Lester C. Leonhardt A107154,
after two years in the Militia in
Kitchener, joined the army in Lon-
don in January 1943. Basic training
in Listowel, Ipperwash and Debert
N.S. Went overseas in January
1944.
A few days after the initial D -Day
invasion went into the theatre of the
war in Europe. Was with the Essex
Scottish at this time.
He was wounded near Falaise and
returned to England. Returned to
Canada in February, 1946 and was
discharged in London later in the
year.

JOHN MacLEAN
John MacLean joined the Perth
Regt. in Stratford Sept., 1939 and
served in Canada and overseas with
the Perths.
Helen MacKenzie
HELEN MacKENZIE
Helen (Brown) MacKenzie P1.
was born at Davin, Saskatchewan.
After four years of teaching in
May, 1942 she was accepted into
the R.C.A.F. W.D. (Women'
Division) and sent to Rockcliff 1.
R.C.A.F. station for six months
basic training.
She was sent to T.T.S. (Technical
Training School), St. Thomas for
Equipment Assistant Training then
posted to T.T.S. on Staff.
While there she was W.D. sports
representitive of the station, Captain
of Station's W.D. softball and
basketball teams, a member of the
station's track team winning
Western Command Competition,
and a member of W.D. Precision
Drill Squad. She worked in the
Technical Stores (airplane parts,
instruments etc. clothing stores in
charge of all personal clothing
files).
She was placed second in
command to set up central stock
control on station. She took a
month's leave without pay each fall
and returned to Sask. to help with
the grain harvest on her home farm
at Davin. In November of 1944 she
married Gordon MacKenzie and
was granted a discharge in the
spring of 1945. In the spring of
1946 she was one of the few W.D's
to buy a farm under the Veterans'
Land Act and still lives on that
farm.
