England, emigrated to Canada,

Entered WRCNS Ottawa, 1943 as
probationary Wren. Served
H.M.C.S. Conestoga from Nov. 18,
1943 to May 23, 1944. H.M.C.S.
Bytown from June, 1944 to May 7,
1945. H.M.C.S. Stadicona from
May 8, 1945 to July 31, 1946.
Discharged as Regulating Petty
Officer.
Her category was 'regulator'.
Most of the duties consisted of
personnel work, within the resi-
' dences, known as the ships. They
were required to work si* hours a
watch changing every two weeks.
There were four watches.
She was stationed at a station
during V.J. Day which was
carefully monitored after the V.E.
day riots. She was also was on duty
at 7 p.m. the night of the explosion
in the harbour at Halifax in 1945.
This was the second Halifax
explosion. They were given three
minutes to evacuate 1,200 Wrens to
a park. We succeeded in doing this.

Former Seaforth resident Wm.
Jaffray was born in Toronto and
now lives in Stratford. He served
during the war in the Royal
Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve
as acting Petty Officer from 1939 to
45. Now retired, he also served as
Chief Warrant Officer with the
Canadian Navy from 1950-58 and
1960-1969. He was stationed at
Halifax, Sydney, Toronto and
Esquimalt, B.C., and for a spell was
on loan to the Royal Navy's
battleship H.M.S. Revenge on
escort duty.
ALEX IRVINE
Alex Irvine joined in 1942. He
was sent to England in 1943. He
was a member of #2 C.C.S.
(Casualty Clearing Station)
R.C.A.M.C. (Royal Canadian Army
Medical Corps). He went to Europe
in 1944 after D -Day and returned to
Seaforth in 1945. He now resides in
Seaforth.
