GORDON CAMPBELL
Gordon Gregor was the father of
John Gregor who lives on Goderich
St. W.
Gord was the son of an Ulsterman
and from Niagara Falls, Ont.,
enlisting at 18 in the Royal
Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve
and serving in training and on the
High Seas as first an Ordinary then
Able Seaman on the HMCS
Corvettes York, Protector,
Cornwallis, Chicoutimi, Stadacona,
Niabe and Peregrine.
He did not like to talk about his
younger days in wartime or life on
the lower deck, but he did a little
boxing and never ate another
tomato in his life, always saying the
ones they were given on ship in the
navy had sickened him for good.
He used his electrical and
mechanical training from the
service as a starting point for a
career in maintenance the next 42
years and died in 1992.
