BAKER He joined an infantry Regiment on Oct. 24, 1939 namely "The Hasting and Prince Edward Regiment". He trained in Picton, Ontario until December 17 1939 and on that date the regiment left for overseas. He spent Christmas in the middle of the Atlantic ocean. His regiment trained in Britian for three and a half years and during that time was involved in the defence of England. The regiment served in France, Italy and Sicily also Belgium, Holland and finally Germany. The first Brigade of the first Division was made up of 'The Royal Canadian Regiment' "The Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment' and the '48th Highlanders' with attached troops, such as transport, signals, artillery etc. His tour of duty with the army was five years, 358 days, 1939- 1945. Enlisted in Toronto in April of 1942 with basic training in Brantford. On Aug. 8 he was sent to England from Sussex, N.B. spending ten days crossing the Atlantic on the Cape town Castle. He served with the 8th Light Anti - Aircraft Regiment in France, Belguim, Holland and Germany from June, 1944 until Nov., 1945. He came home with 21,000 others on the Queen Elizabeth which arrived in New York on New Year's Day 1946. John H.
