IN REMEMBRANCE - About 50 members of Seaforth Legion
Branch 156 and Ladies' Auxiliary took part in the annual church
Remembrance
During the past few weeks stu-
dents from Seaforth Public School
and St. James School have been the
guests at Branch 156 to view the
display of memorabilia and a video.
This was part of the Remembrance
program and because it proved to
be of interest to the students. We
hope it can become an annual
event.
Saturday night the Veterans'
Banquet was held with approxi-
mately 150 in attendance. Special
guests included District C Com-
mander Kip and Mrs. Riley; Deputy
Zone Commander C-1, Gordon and
Mrs. De Jong; Deputy -Zone Com-
mander C-1, Olave Little; President,
Ladies Auxiliary, Ann Wood and
her husband Don; M.P.P. Paul
Klopp and Mrs. Klopp; Mayor
Hazel Hildebrand; President, Branch
156, John Lansink and his wife
Penny; Guest speaker, John Melady
and his wife Mary.
John Melady was introduced by
President John and spoke on the
bravery of the Veterans and others
during the years. He thanked us for
the invitation for himself and his
wife. They were each presented
with a gift by John and Penny on
behalf of the Branch.
Greetings were brought from
District C by Commander Kip Riley
who said Branch 156 was held in
high regard in the District for the
work done and for its display of
memorabilia. Greetings were also
brought from Zone C-1 and from
Zone C-1 Ladies Auxiliary. Mayor
Hazel Hildebrand thanked the
Branch and Auxiliary on behalf of
the town for all the good work done
through the years. President Ann
Wood, Ladies Auxiliary, presented
the Branch with a cheque for
S10,000 suggesting it can be used
to refurbish the downstairs Ladies'
Powder room and the ceiling on the
Banquet hall.
Seaforth's only first war veteran,
Harry Palin, was acknowledged,
also, Mrs. Runty Hogg, veteran of
the Wrens and the holder of the
Order of Canada.
Entertainment followed. The
Ladies Auxiliary as usual served the
delicious dinner. Thanks to every-
one who helped prepare and serve
this meal.

terrible weather turned out to help.
Special thanks to the army cadets
