The following are profiles of the candidates running for these positions in the Nov. 14 municipal election. REEVE Three people are running for reeve for the township. They include incumbent Thomas Cun- ningham, Hugh Flynn and Frank Szusz. Thomas Cunningham THOMAS CUNNINGHAM Cunningham, of RR 1 Auburn, is an area farmer. He and his wife, lla, have five children and three grandchildren. He has had several years of political experience in the area. He served for two years on the Hullett Township School Board, two years as a councillor on township council, two years as deputy reeve and 14 years as reeve. Cunningham wrote that he is running again because,"I believe we are fortunate to live in a country such as Canada and I want to make my small contribution to keep it the wonder- ful country it is. I believe Hullett at this time needs the leadership which I feel I can give. I also think I have been both fiscally responsible and hopefully politically responsible to the residents of Hulicit Township." HUGH FLYNN Flynn is a farmer from RR 1 Londesboro. He and his wife Donna, also a farmer, have five children. For 15 years, Flynn was a Lion referee and umpire. He is also the past president of the Western Hugh Flynn Ontario Athletic Association, of which he was a member for 15 years. He also sat on the Board of Directors for Clinton Public Hospital for 18 years. Flynn is also an ex councillor and reeve for the township and while with the Hullett Township Council, they battled the ministry and won for a fair price for all ratepayers involved in the Hullett Wildlife Sanctuary. He wrote that he is running because he wants "Fair and equal- ity for all ratepayers no matter what corner of the township. Ratepayers shouldn't have to drive all the way from the edge of Clinton to Kinburn to vote. While on the Clinton Hospital Board, I made the motion to protest the closure of our Clinton Public Hospital and see the excellent facility we now have and well maintained," Frank Szusz FRANK SZUSZ Szusz is a farmer from RR1 Blyth. He is married to Phyllis, a homemaker, and they have five children and seven grandchildren. He served on the arena board for 10 years, six of those years as chairman. He was the secretary treasurer of his church for eight years and vice-chairman of the railroad union for four years. As for his reason for running for reeve, Szusz wrote, "We have not had a vote for reeve in the past number of years. Also, I am op- posed to the building of the new township office building. I will cancel the building project im- mediately. Most important of all, get out and vote." COUNCILLOR Four candidates are running for one of the three positions of coun- cillor. They include David Armstrong, Bruce Bergsma, Doug Hugill and Robert Szusz. David Armstrong DAVID ARMSTRONG Armstrong, 36, of Londesboro, works at the Hensall Co-op in Londesboro. He and his wife, Karen, a health care aide, have four children, Mathew, 14; Daren, 11; Cara, 8; and Lindsey, 4. This is his first time running in municipal elections, but he has been active in other public ser- vices. see Hullett, page 14 1St. Columban by Cecilia Ryan 345-2028 CWL invited to St. James bazaar the November meeting of the St. Columban Catholic Women's League (CWL) was held on Tues- day, Nov. 1 in the rectory meeting room. Karen Ryan, president opened the meeting with the League prayer and Sister Rita Coyne gave a reading and reflection. Correspondence included invita- tions to St. James C.W.L. Bazaar on Saturday, Nov. 26 from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. at St. James school, Seaforth and also to Immaculate Conception C.W.L., Stratford, Bazaar on Nov. 26 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in St. Joseph's Parish Hall, Stratford. The League has pur- chased a vacuum cleaner and large coffee pot for use in the hall. The annual C.W.L. Harvest Dance is Saturday, Nov. 12 at the Brodhagen Community Centre. Mary Moylan who has been staying with Janos and Catherine Janossy in Walkerton spent last week at her home in St. Columban. Sister Jean Moylan of Windsor spent the weekend with her mother. Dale and Susan Cronin, Deklan and Connor of Dublin and their nephews, Darren and Jamie Mohr of Mitchell and Cecilia Ryan of St. Columban spent Sunday afternoon with Gerry and Karen Ryan, Jason, Amanda and Jeremy and celebrated Jeremy's tenth birthday.
