Ringers
sweep
three
Seaforth (TF) Ringers started the
novice ringette season off on a high
note by winning their first three
games.
The Ringers travelled to Exeter
for the season opener facing an
equally matched Exeter novice
squad. Seaforth managed six goals
and allowed only three goals with
great defensive play by Shannon
Brooker, Monica Eckert, Amanda
Van Miltenburg and Randi-Lynn
Wilson. Goal tending shared by
Mary Finlayson and Monica Eckert
and both were tough td beat in net.
Goals by Nicole Kistner, Suzanne
Coleman, Erin Jan Dooren and
Mary Finlayson, with assists going
to Jenny Phillips, Kim Van
Miltenburg and Courtney Fischer.
On Saturday afternoon Nicole
Kistner scored two goals, with
singles to Kayla Flanagan and Mary
Finlayson as the Ringers defeated
St. Mary's 4-3 in Monkton. The
only credited assist was awarded to
Jenny Phillips. Awesome
goaltending by Erin Van Dooreen

Final Bears' volleyball home stand
On Thursday, Seaforth hosted its
second and final home game of the
1994 volleyball season against
Clinton. The juniors played first,
and, held their own until the third
game when Clinton crushed our
midget team along with three
juniors. The boys won one and lost
two. The boys have not had an
extremely successful season, okay
not a successful season at all; but
the boys have played hard, had fun
and gained a lot of experience. The
seniors had a good day with a bit of
fan support, not a lot, but some
people wandered out of class at
3:00 if they had a Bears Booster
Card! The boys took the first one
quite handily, 15-7; but the game
was so slow there were times when
a few mattresses would have felt
very good.
The second game Clinton got off
to an early lead only for Seaforth to
score 8 uncontested points and
bring the score to 12-11 in our
favour. However, the final score
ended up 15-12 for Clinton. The
last game, number 24 off Seaforth
gave the team, that extra bit of
enthusiasm to pull of another
victory. Half way through the game
on a set from Steve Leonhardt,
Scott his older brother crushed a
ball into the head of a blocker who
made a mistake of trying to block
it. The ball rocketed off the now
injured Clinton man and went
through the roof: However, the ball
has hit s0000 hard that the tile,
almost came crashing to its grave.
The boys kept up the head of steam
and won 15-9. The moral of the
story, check Seaforth Community
Hospital. The boys on the season
are now 9-17, a much improved
record over last year.
The girls hosted F.E. Madill
(Wingham) on Wednesday. The
Cinderella Centenaires crash, burn
The Scaforth Centenaires fell out
of first place with back-to-back
losses on the weekend.
Saturday night at Belmont they
were drubbed and doubled 8-4 by
the hometown Bombers, after
dropping a 7-4 decision to the Mt.

Now with a 6-3 record, Seaforth
is still in the thick of what is
shaping up as the closest race in
years in the Western Division of the
Ontario Hockey Association's
Junior "D"evelopment League.
When the dust cleared after this
weekend the Port Stanley Lakers
were in first place with 16 points
and only two points separated the
next four clubs in the nine -team
division.
But giving up 15 goals in two
games against teams not famous for
their goal production, as Seaforth
did this weekend, doesn't bode well
for making a serious challenge for
the top. The Centenaires now have
one of the worst defensive records
in the division.
They don't play at home this
weekend but travel to Lambeth
Sunday evening for a 7:15 game.
There was only one minor penalty
called the entire game Saturday
night against the Bombers, but that
was small consolation for the Cents
who fell behind by three goals in
the second period and were beaten
to the puck, or muscled off it when
they did get there, all night by the
rejuvenated Bombers, up from the
basement for the last two seasons.
Josh Little and a trio of Jasons -
Cook, Murray and Henderson
scored the Scaforth goals.

but the loss still put a damper og
annual "Meet The Players Night
activities. Despite allowing a bucket
full of goals the Centenaires had
more than enough quality chances
to win but couldn't finish. The first
period was scoreless and the
Bulldogs pulled into a 3-2 lead after
two, at one point taking a 6-2 lead
in the third and scoring their final
goal into an empty net. Jason
Dunseith, Murray, Little and Cook
scored for Seaforth, time after time
thwarted by 14 -year-old goaltender
Jake McCracken. Veteran Paul
Hendriks had a hat trick for the
Bulldogs.
It was Seaforth's first loss on
home ice this season.

juniors played a very good game in
which coach Walsh was extremely
happy. The final score was 66-57,
in which four of Seaforths players
broke double digits; C. Thompson -
18, K. Murray - 12; C. Bennet - 14,
K. Jamieson - 12.
The seniors began to run away
with the game in the second quarter
and kept stretching their lead
throughout the game. Three -pointers
were a large factor as many of the
girls just seemed to stay perched on
the line, waiting for their
opportunity. The girls ended up
slaughtering Wingham 58-30. High
scores were C. Price - 22; L. Perrie
- 12; S. Johnston - 11.
The senior team to Sarnia this
past weekend to play in a
tournament. Although they lost all
their games, a larger improvement
was shown over last time they.
played against the big schools,
especially Oakridge. The team did
get some great news as they might
be ranked to the top 5 going into
WOSSA. The tournament MVP was
Carly Price. Good Work Girls!
