Bombers tri -county champions
The Seaforth Mite Bombers cap-
tured the south "A" Mite Cham-
pionship in Tri -County last Thurs-
day when they defeated Belgrave
"B" 9-3. The Bombers were a
devoted team this year as they were
only 10 players and there was
always at least 9 players at each
game! It was an exciting regular
season for the team with a record of
eight wins (1 by forfeit) and 1 tie
and 1 loss. A round robin was
played at the end of the season
amongst the top three teams in the
division. Only two of these teams
would advance to a two out of three
championship series. When the
round robin was over the Seaforth
Mite Bombers faced rt. top h.ayd
improved Belgrave. "DI Mtn ler
the championship.
The first game of the 2/3 series
was played in Scaforth at the High
School. Brent O'Reilly took the
mound for Seaforth and in spite of
having a full day at McLlwain
Hockey School pulled off one of
his best pitched games of the sea-
son. Errors by the infield in the first
inning however gave Belgrave a 5-2
after the first. Both teams buckled
down after that inning and some
good defensive ball was played.
With two runners on base in the
third inning Derek Van Dieten,
playing right field, made a tremen-

inning Belgrave was leading 8-4.
Seaforth defence came through
catching two fly balls and O'Reilly
struck out the third batter to end the
Belgrave's team's hope of running
up the score. Seaforth needed five
runs to win. Shawn Van Dyk with
his usual eagle eye, made
Belgrave's pitcher come up short
and walked to first. By the time
Nick Jansen got to the plate their
was two out and the bases were
loaded. The score was 8-6. Nick,
who also had a gruelling day at
hockey school still had something

the series. What a come back!
Thursday, the second game of the
series was in Belgrave. The
coaches, Mery and Maureen Agar
warned the boys to concentrare and
cut down on the errors! Both teams
were out to win and the first and
second innings were close.
All the boys were tense and deter-
mined not to make any errors. Matt
Thibert, Seaforth's solid third
baseman, was there for the team
when he caught a hard line drive
for the second out of the fifth
inning, holding runners at second
and first. Belgrave was shut down
as the last better struck out.
