Stars win close game with '94 Cents
An old fox showed the young
bucks a thing or two at the local
arena during last Wednesday's
Summer Showcase hockey game
between Scaforth's junior
Centenaites and the Dave
McLlwain Hockey School Stars.
Dave's dad Jack scored four times
and added a couple of assists to
lead the Stars to a 14-13 win over
the Cents. The 57 -year old, who
starred on Seaforth's dominant
junior B team of the Carly 1950s
(called the Baldwins) .-who once
boasted a 43-2 record at one point
of the 1952 season which included
a 24 -game winning streak, was
named the game's first star, and
showed he can still play in some
fast company some four decades
later.
Dublin's Rem Murray was flying
too. He had a .10 -point outing and
was second star. His Michigan State
University Spartan teammate Steve
Guolla was third star.
It was an entertaining exhibition
watched by about 400 fans that
helped to raise about $400 after
expenses for the cash-strapped
Centenaires, now into training camp
preparing for the coming season.
The Cents surprised even them-
selves and grabbed a 2-0 lead by
the midway point of the first
period. Then quick as a blink the
next thing they knew they were on
the canvas seeing stars, the kind
that twinkle, as the McLlwain crew
went on a tear, scoring four times
in a 1:48 span at the end of the
period to grab a 7-2 lead.
Between periods the Seaforth
juniors engineered surely the
greatest trade in their 21 -year his-
tory, exchanging Ian Doig, Jamie
Ramer and Kory Dietz for the all -
Spartan trio of Murray, Guolla and
Mike Watt, so soon climbed right
back into the thick and spirit of
things.
That combination, with Dave and
Greg Murray on the blueline. then

THE MICHIGAN LINE - Mike Watt, Steve Guolla and Rem
Murray - all members of the Michigan State University Spartans -
were an effective combination at the Centenaires Summer
Showcase last Wednesday evening at the Seaforth arena. A
Seaforth 'Dream Team' faced off against the Centenaires and
Junior Development alumni. Rem Murray, captain of the Spartans,
chalked up 10 points.
Centenaires' coach Maurice Guy as
a sixth attacker in replace of
goaltender Dave Nahrgang, man-
aged to score three times in the last
two minutes of the game to leave
the outcome in doubt until the final
seconds ticked away.
A good time was had by all.

TAKE THAT BRO - Rem Murray, left, gives his older brother
Dave a friendly shove into the boards during Wednesday night's
Summer Showcase at the Seaforth arena. Dave and Greg Murray
were on a high -scoring line. Rem Murray had ten points.
