spices.
4. Place trays in fridges which
have been converted into
ovens by placing them, on
their backs and putting an
electric element in the bottom
(it takes about nine such
ovens).
5. Bake beans, stirring occa-
sionally, for about two hours
until tender and thick (you
will have approximately 4,000
pounds of baked beans).
6. Serve when ready (if you
have some beans left over,
these may be frozen for later
use).
The Bean Festival menu also
includes barbecued pork
chops, cole slaw, supplied by
Jerry Rader's Homestyle
Cooking, 400 pounds of bean
salad prepared by the Bean
Producers Committee, fresh
rolls and free coffee.
And, the icing on the cake, is
the terrific selection of fresh
baked pies, made by local
church groups. The women
associated with these churches
are among the finest pastry
chefs in the country.
To be sure, with the ample
supply of food and talented
culinary experts at the helm of
the Zurich Bean Festival - no
one goes away hungry.

BEANS FOR BREAKFAST?? No, we don't go that far. But you can
get a hearty breakfast of pancakes and sausage at the Bean
Festival. The Zurich Minor Athletic Association puts on the
breakfast, which is served downtown between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m.
Local mills donate beans for meals
The main ingredient to any
Bean Festival is, of course,
beans -- lots of them.
This year's 29th annual
Zurich Bean Festival will
make use of 2,200 pounds to
feed the hungry hordes that
descend on the village for the
annual bean bash, to be held
this year on August 27.
As in past years, three local
mills will be donating the
copious quantities of white
beans neccessary for the event.
W.G Thompson's, Hensall
District Co-operators and
Cook's Division of Parrish
and Heimbecker Ltd, with
their generous contribution,
play a large part in helping to
make the Bean Festival
happen.
For every 100 pounds of
dried beans added to the mix,
the committee is able to serve
200 pounds of baked beans
The companies have been
supplying the beans since the
festival's incpetion and each
year take turns donating the
lion's share, with the support
of the Ontario Bean Producers
Marketin1 Board.
