Motocross returns
to Walton
The third annual CMC Trans Can
National Motocross Championships
are set to go in Walton from
August 18-21, 1994.
Motocross History
Twenty years of motocross!
Walton literally comes alive as land
originally part of acreage farmed by
the Lee family, is transformed into
Canada's most challenging and
competitive off-road motorcycle
track.
Back in 1974, a club called the
Maitland Dirt Riders organized its
first event in August. Over 300
riders showed up and proved so
successful, another event was
planned for October. The ritual
continued as Molson Breweries
added their corporate participation
from '76-'79 when they sponsored
a provincial championship series.
Walton was fast becoming a favour-
ite site for racers and fans alike.
Competitors from Sweden, Japan,
England, Canada and the U.S. vied
for the championship titles.
In 1981, Ross Pederson began his
dominance of Canadian motocross
in Walton at the Andy Bishop -pro-
moted Canadian Expert National.

Ross would continue his command-
ing performance until August, 1993,
back in Walton. The track had in
the meantime taken a ten-year sab-
batical.
The Tradition Continues
A resurgence of motocross was
stimulated by Mark Stallybrass and
Continental Motospon Club and
Walton was brought out of moth-
balls for a two-day event in 1991.
After much debate and discussion,'
the Lce family committed the
Walton track to.a prestigious major
Canadian motocross event.
An exceptional natural track rid-
den once a year would be the base
on which a four-day annual would
evolve. Ardent, enthusiastic com-
munity support, accessible and
highly competitive with lots of
extracurricular attractions plus
ample opportunity to socialize. The
formula unfolded and a dream
became a reality.
This year marks the 3rd Annual
Trans Can National with competi-
tors from B.C. to the Maritimes,
Florida to Alaska all vying for the
championship titles. Pee woes to
pros will test their abilities and
skills at one of the world's most
physically demanding sports -
motocross. Fast -paced, bar banging,
high -flying action will be the order
of the four days at Walton. This
year's Trans Can will also stage the
final round of the five race Pro
National Championship series
where the best in Canada will be
crowned and S12,tX10 is posted$s
the purse. A match not to be
missed!
