At the August 2 meet- ing of Tuckersmith Township Council, the council authorized the company to proceed with an investigation of the new struc- ture. Former candidate won't seek Perth PC nomination A former Progressive Conser- vative candidate in Perth County will not seek the nomination for the upcoming election. Ron Christie, of RR 2 Staffa, announced last Friday that he will not seek the nomination. He ran for the Progressive Conser- vative Party in Perth in the 1990 election. He was one of six members of the local riding considering to seek the nomination. So far, Clark Statton and George Brown, both of Stratford, have announced their intentions. Christie said that the large number of people interested in seeking the nomination indicates that there is "a strong sign of the winability" of the PCs in Perth. As a result, he decided to support the best candidate and to put his own ambitions to the MPP for Perth on the back burner. Theatre group to visit Seaforth The Huron Country Young Players is bringing their new musical revue to the Seaforth Manor, Seaforth on Thursday, August 11 at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. This venue is generously spon- sored by the Seaforth Lioness Club. The show will feature the music of Broadway, Gilbert aid Sullivan, Vera Lynn and War Songs performed by Steven A. Gauci, Christian Jeffrey, Melodic Shannon and Mai-Liis Todd accompanied on piano by Laurence Gauci. The show is directed by Carl K. Zvonkin. Seaforth swears in auxiliary police officers Tina Bosman and Mark Heaven have been sworn in as auxiliary police officers with the Scaforth Police Services. The auxiliary force now consists of four members. CRTC regulates Tuckersmith phone system The Tuckersmith Municipal Telephone System is now under the regulation of the CRTC (Canadian Radio -television and Telecommunications Commis- sion). The federal regulatory body assumed regulation of indepen- dent telephone companies from the Ontario Telephone Service Commission after a Supreme Court of Canada decision. Changes to rates and services will now have to be approved by the CRTC, said Bill Allen, Director of Public Affairs. If subscribers have comments or concerns regarding price or service they may write to Secre- tary-General, CRTC, Ottawa, Ontario, K IA ON2 or phone the telecommunications com- plaints/inquiries line at (819) 997-0272. The local telephone system may still have to apply to the Ontario Telephone Service Com- mission to change its structure, said Paul Vlahos, manager of operations.
