Children attend swim classes

Local children are going to class
in the summer...their classes just
happen to be in a swimming pool.
More than 200 people this sum-
mer will be learning how to swim
properly with the Backyard Pool
Hoppers, a business started by
Kendra Papple.
The private swim program is
taught by new swim instructors
Carrie McLlwain and Marcy
McCall.
The emphasis of the program is
on individualized instruction and
meeting the individual needs of
each child, said Carrie.
"We like small classes with more
one-on-one attention," she said.
"We have to adapt to each
child...you can't expect them to
learn everything the same way."
Parents play a big part in the
swim program as they stay and
watch the children as they improve
their swimming skills.
"It's a family thing," says Marcy.
One of the Pool Hoppers' goals is
being flexible with the timing of
classes to fit the schedules of the
parents.
The swim instruction follows the
Red Cross colour classifications as
well as the Royal Life Saving
Society bronze medallion.
Young people who take the
bronze level course have to be at
least 13 years of age and must
invest at least 20 hours into the
course. Described by Marcy as
"future lifeguards," these young
people (ages 13-16) are learning
rescuing rind safety techniques.

program about two years ago, is

Everyone answered the roll call
by saying what they Teamed
about their own square dancing
ability. Plans were made for the
Achievement Program on
August 31. Then members
danced up a storm in the heat of
the evening.
Members called and danced to
