What about pressure to win from the Ottawa Senators organization? "The main thing is right now they're trying to get an arena built and as players that's not our worry. Come game time - that's our job. Our duty is to perform. The bottom line is winning. Whether you're myself or anyone else if you keep losing, then they'll make changes. And you never like to be part of them." What are Dave's perceptions of this year's Senators? "I look at it as a young team and they look at myself for leadership now whereas I always had a differ- ent role on different teams being a younger guy. So hopefully some of the things I learned from the vet- erans who I played with throughout the years, I can pass on to some of the younger kids." Another young Seaforth area hockey player has started on the road to the NHL, Mike Watt of Egmondville. It's great to see. The Murray boys were there (Michigan State University), now Mike's there. And the Devereaux boys are doing well. "It might be a year or two before he's there (NHL) but he definitely has the skills and the size and the talent. He definitely has the dedica- tion for the game. A lot of kids when they get drafted kind of slow down a little bit but I don't see him being that type of guy. I wish him the best...who knows, maybe we'll be facing off against each other some day." What does Dave think about the Toronto Maple Leafs trading Cap- tain Wendel Clark, a former roommate and teammate of Dave's, to the Quebec Nordiques? Local 1 DAVID SCOTT PHOTO DONATION FOR MOBILITY BUS - The Seaforth Legion recently donated $5,000 to CHUMS (Central Huron Mobility Service) for the purchase of their new mobility bus. Past Legion president, Errol Skillender presented the cheque to Ron Latham, acting Chair of CHUMS. From left, Margaret DeJong of CHUMS, Ron Latham, Errol Skillender, Cindy DeGroof - CHUMS Steering Committee member, Don Forrest - Chairman of Applications for CHUMS. "It shocked me as much as the next guy or any die-hard (Leafs) fans in this area. It was a shock to him, too, I'm sure. Any time you're with an organization for nine years then all of a sudden you've got to uproot and start all over again, it's not very easy. I've done it many times but it's tough when you've been there nine years to move on. "He'll do well wherever he goes. He's the type of player who plays hard every game. Quebec knew what they were getting when they got him. He's going to be there game in and game out." Following the hockey school in August named after him, Dave McLlwain will return to training camp and begin his eighth year in the NHL. aj Juf U5 Ars'_ rill. - Fri. -Thur.
