"We're still looking for a couple of goalies," said Administrative Director Graham Nesbiu. The first 208 spots have been full for a month. From August 21-26 and August 28 to September 2 hockey players from ages 7 to 15 will take to the 'ice and learn some things about the game from pros and other talented instructors. Local instructors include Dave Akey, who will be teaching for both weeks; NHL linesman Scott Driscoll, teaching for the first week; MikeWatt - first week, Rem Murray of Michigan State University - fust week and Mike and Boyd Devereaux. A new instructor this year is Scotty Muscutt from the University of New Brunswick who was a former minor hockey player in Glencoe and played Junior B in St. Thomas. Also Kelly Reed of the University of New Brunswick, a former London Knight, will help instruct. Returning will be Ronnie White . of Sebringville, a former Stratford Culliton. Goalie Matt Barnes, who set records for shutouts with the Cullitons, will instruct as well. "We're lucky. We've got a good crew of instructors. It works out excellent. Dave (McLlwain) is a good guy to have. He takes the hockey school seriously," said Nesbitt. As well there will be some yet unnamed NHL stars making guest appearances at the school. "It's tough now because they moved (NHL) training camp up a week early this year. It's going to be tough to get players that haven't already left for camp," said McLlwain. - - --_- But Dave McLlwain is on the ice everyday with the young hockey players even though his personal schedule picks up pace at the end of August. "That's my crunch time of the year too where I have to Church welcomes new pastor St. Patrick's Church welcomes Fr. Tony Delciancio who is also Pastor of St. Vincent De Paul, Mitchell. Because of the NHL camp being moved up a week earlier, Dave might miss one afternoon with the students. The first year was obviously a success with about half of this year's players attending for a sec- ond time. There are players from as far away as Sault Ste. Marie, Windsor, Tillbury, Kitchener, Toronto and Timmins. "Last year we had a kid fmm Alberta here. His grandmother is from Bayfield and he just com- muted from there," said McLlwain, Ottawa Senators player and Seaforth native. What's different this year is no involvement in the administration of the school by the arena board or sharing of profits with them. Nesbitt and McLlwain have formed their own corporation and will be treated just like any other renter of facilities at the Seaforth and District Community Centres. "The set up is a little different this year. We're just running it as two individuals, as if we were renting the rest of the arena...it's still CCM (sponsored) but we've made it into a company now for different reasons. If I ever wanted to do one (another hockey school) in different places, that part of it's already done," said McLlwain. "I would like to stay here for one but if I could at a later date do one in some place other than Seaforth, in a different area, it might work - say in Ottawa where I am right now, where people know you," said McLlwain. Nesbitt has already been approached by another town inter- ested in setting up a McLlwain hockey school during a different week in the summer that doesn't conflict with the Seaforth date. Will the hockey school continue to be an annual event in Seaforth? "We want to try to establish our- selves and keep building every year. It's two weeks right now. It keeps us busy.
