Briefly
New principal at
high school
A Seaforth native and a former
Vice Principal of Seaforth Dis-
trict High School (SDHS) will
be returning to be Principal at
the school.
Jim Moore, who attended
elementary and high school in
Seaforth, will take over from
current SDHS Principal Ralph
Wareham, who has been named
Superintendent of Schools.
Moore will be moving from
his current position as Principal
of Central Huron Secondary
School. He says he has mixed
emotions about the change.
"It's really nice to come
home," he said. "By the same
token, I'm leaving a really,
really good school here."
The new Principal started his
teaching career at SDHS in 1970
and he taught there until 1978
when he moved to Central
Huron where he was head of the
history department until 1983.
He served as vice-principal at
SDHS from 1983 until 1988.
He left SDHS to become an
executive assistant at the board
office and later returned to Cen-
tral Huron as Principal.
Moore's son, Brad, is president
of the 1994-'95 Student's Coun-
cil.

Watt picked up by
Oilers in NHL draft
BY DAVID SCOTT
Expositor Staff
It appears another Seaforth-area
hockey player is going to play for
the National Hockey League
(NHL). Mike Watt, 18, of
Egmondville, was selected by the
Edmonton Oilers in the second
round of the National Hockey
League entry draft last Tuesday
night in Hartford.
Watt, rated 40th over-all by NHL
Central Scouting, was the sixth
player chosen in the second round,
going 32nd over-all.
But Watt has decided not to begin
his pro career until completing his
four-year scholarship at Michigan
State University.
The Watt family travelled to
Hartford on Monday for the NHL
draft and met with representatives
from the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh
Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, Anaheim
Mighty Ducks, San Jose Sharks,
Quebec Nordiqucs, New York
Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs and
Washington Capitals. In the end it
was Edmonton that scooped up the
6 -foot, 2 -inch, 212 -pound player.
"I talked to pretty much all the
teams. I was surprised when
Edmonton picked me. I had no
contact with them. They thought I'd
be gone by the time it came to
them."
"When I was available they
picked me up. They were pretty
happy to get me and I'm pretty
happy to go there," said Watt in a
telephone interview with the Iluron
Expositor after he had returned
from the U.S. He's had a very busy
schedule being on the road for the
last five weekends.
Watt was the highest-rated of the
five Canadian and American Junior
13 players on the Central Scouting's
list. He has spent the last avec
seasons playing left wing and centre
for the Midwestern Junior 13
Hockey League Stratford Cullitons
where he finished the 1993-94
season with 34 goais and 34 assists
in 48 games. He also chalked up
165 penalty minutes.
How docs Mike Watt feel about
eventually joining the Edmonton
Oilers?
"It's a good organization. They
picked up some good players in the
draft - Ryan Smith, they already

Glen Sather who have been through
a couple of dynasties."
Watt will be helping out for at
least one week of the Dave
McLlwain Hockey School. He
begins his first year at Michigan
State University near the end of
August. "I'm looking forward to it
(Michigan). Edmonton thinks it's
good I'm going to Michigan State
to develop skills. They'll probably
talk to me after my first year if I
have a good year."
Watt walks the road of other
Seaforth-area hockey enthusiasts at
Michigan State. He will be coached
by former Seaforth resident Ron
Mason. He will play with Rem
Murray, of Dublin, who is in his
senior year. Rem's older brother Pat
also went to Michigan State before
playing with the Philadelphia Flyers
organization.
"Pretty much all of Seaforth is
there," Joked Watt.
Mike Watt has never been to
Edmonton, Alberta. "i've been to
Calgary. I've heard Edmonton has
some pretty nice stuff, like the
West Edmonton Mall."
Who knows whcn this future
NHL player will have the time to
shop.
