HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Huron Expositor, 1994-06-15, Page 7Community St. Columban by Cecilia Ryan 345-2028 W.I. holds June social The St. Columban Catholic Women's League held its annual June Social on Wednesday, June 8 in the St. Columban parish hall. Ladies from church organizations in the surrounding area attended. The convenor for this social event was Nancy O'Reilly. Karen Ryan, President, welcomed all the ladies and thanked them for coming out. The entertainment started with a humorous skit when a Catholic Women's League woman (played by Sharon Kelly) visited a sick woman (played by Debbie Murray) in the hospital. Other entertainment was by mary Jane Coyne and Julianne Crowley each playing a selection on the piano. Following this the women sold a good selection of home baking and drew the tickets on the raffle draw. One hundred descendants of the late John and Louise Eckert attended the 18th annual family reunion on Saturday, June 11 at the St. Columban Parish Hall. Hosts for this year's reunion were Jerry and Marie Eckert and family of Owen Sound. A prayer service with readings and hymns led by Maureen Greulich opened the reunion. Children and adults enjoyed lots of games and races with prizes for the winners. Families attending the reunion came from Chatham, Strathroy, London, Owen Sound, Kitchener, Stratford, Mitchell, Dublin, St. Columban, Lucknow, Mildmay, New Hamburg, Kinkora, Cambridge and Seaforth. Hosts for next years reunion are Keith and Rita Kelly. Sister Mary Eckert of Chatham and Sister Margaret Rose Eckert Strathroy spent the weekend with Cecilia Ryan and attended the Eckert reunion on Saturday. Ann and Bob Henderson had a surprise barbecue at their home in Seaforth on Sunday afternoon to celebrate the 52nd wedding anniversary of Ann's parents, Alphonse and Annie Cronin. Families attending were from Mitchell, Cromarty, Monkton, Sebringville, Seaforth and St. Columban. Happy Anniversary from your friends and relatives. Set high goals, work towards them and don't let anyone or anything stop them, said Dr. Norman Barlow to the combined Seaforth I, Clinton and Colborne clubs. He entertained with his many little stories and magic acts. The guest speaker's talk fol- lowed an interesting program of skits and exhibits with junior leader Janet Vanden Hoven as emcee. The group achievement pro- gram was the completion of the Bauer Up!, Photography, Energy Conservation and Best Foot Forward projects. Members receiving six -club awards were Chrystal Hopper, TIM CUMbINO PHOTO 4-H WINNERS - Six -club recipients include Crystal Mason, Chrystal Hopper, Amanda Sinclair, Jennifer Dixon and Rolph Schuttel. Twelve -club finisher was Sandra Schuttel. Crystal Mason, Jennifer Dixon, Schuttel. Sandra Schuttel Amanda Sinclair and Rolph received a 12 -project award. Also visiting on the weekend were Joe and Mary Ellen Hicknell, Tracy, Adam and Nicholas of Port Stanley and Teresa and Martin Van Raay, Jessica, Dean, Phillip and Stephanie of Dashwood. They also attended the open house for Anna McLaughlin at the Seaforth Manor who celebrated her 80th birthday. The community of St. Columban extends a very Happy Birthday to Anna, a former parishioner of St. Columban Parish. Police conference The Seaforth Police Chief will auend the Annual Conference of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police after all. This year's conference will be held from June 26-30 at Oshawa.
