The Seaforth and District Com-
munity Centres are social and recre-
ational centres for a town which is
home to many sports celebrities.
The arena is home for the two
weeks of the Dave McLlwain CCM
Hockey School which brings more
than 200 young people to the arena
for the last two weeks of August.
"By having the ice in late August
this has created more opportunity
for the minor sports groups and
users," said Graham Nesbitt, arena
manager.
The Centenaires Junior Develop-
ment League training camp is now
held at home, the ringette league
puts on a ringette and goalie clinic
and the recreation department has
power skating classes before the
majority of the minor groups start
their competitive schedules.
The facility employs three full-
time workers including Graham
Nesbitt, manager; Greg Core and
Doug Hugill. Other employees are
Dave Akey (winter - arena/summer
- recreation department), John
Coleman (winter - arena), Jen Watt
(winter - supervisor of concessions)
and concession booth staff.
The community centre offers
regular season and playoff sports
pools for both hockey and baseball.
They are described as popular
fundraisers which create a lot of
community involvement and
enthusiasm.
The arena also offers free public
skating which is sponsored by local
