Funeral home serves needs of bereaved
Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home has
a long, local tradition of helping
people through a very difficult tune.
The funeral home is owned by
Ross and Joyce Ribey who are both
involved in the business and
employ two casual helpers.
The funeral home has been very
happy to have Ruth Townsend, a
graduate of Humber College, assist-
ing.
"We are pleased to have Ruth
Townsend join our staff for her in-
service training in funeral service,"
said owner Ross Ribey.
The funeral home meets the needs
of local people with such advances
as a computerized system for effi-
ciently processing memorial dona-
tions.
Ross Ribey has been dealing with
the bereaved in Seaforth and area
for almost 20 years. He came to
Seaforth in 1975 after serving
funeral homes in Acton and Sutton.
The funeral home was purchased
from Ab Whitney upon his retire-
ment.
The funeral home began with S.
T. Holmes and Son on Main Street
but was purchased by G. A.
Whitney in 1943 and moved to its
present location in 1949.
Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home
offers a 3,000 square foot air-condi-
tioned building located on Goderich
Street West. The building has been
renovated several times, starting
with major changes to the interior
in 1976.
The facility can seat 250 people
and serve three funerals at once
which is sometimes necessary.
Mr. Ribey offers a bereaved
counselling education service.
"I speak at the high school every
year and talk to students about
death and dying," he said. "I also
explain the funeral business and
funeral service to the students."
In the last several years more
people have chosen to prearrange
their funeral.
"People want to do it when
there's no pressure," he said. "A
prearranged funeral is much easier
for the families."
Since their arrival in Seaforth Mr.
and Mrs. Ribey, and their four
children, Andrea, Bradley, Brent
and Cheryl, have been active in the
community.
Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home is
located at 87 Goderich Street West.
Ross Ribey, of Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, speaks on bereavement at the local high school.
Ruth Townsend joins the staff at Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home
serving her in-service training. Ruth has successfully completed her
1st year at Humber College in Funeral Service Education. Mrs.
Townsend and her husband George reside in Tuckersmith
Township with their three children, Murray, Matthew & Charlene.
