HISTORIC STORE - Sills Hardware has a Tong history in the Seatorth downtown. Here is the current
location.
Sills has tradition of service
Good service and the best prices
have always been the goals of
George A. Sills and Sons. Since
1896 five generations of the Sills
family have provided good service
to the customers of the Seaforth
hardware store.
It is probably Seaforth's oldest
existing business.
"It has been totally under Sills
management except for the first
seven years when it was shared
with William Murdie in a partner-
ship," said Frank Sills.
George A. Sills worked for 20
years with Johnston Bros. Hardware
(where Stewart Bros. was located)
and started his own business in
1921 at the current site of Tremeer
printers. George A. Sills bought the
present building from the Kidd
estate and have been there ever
since. 1926.
The hardware store is currently
owned by Frank C. J. Sills and Jim
Sills, Frank's son. D'Orlean (Der)
Sills, Frank's brother and another
partner in the firm, passed away on
May 12, 1994. A new generation of
the Sills family is now employed at
the store in Tracey Sills, Jim's
daughter.
Customers of the store benefit
from the Sills' many years of
experience and receive one-on-one
service. Patrons also benefit from
the Sills association with Home
Hardware.
"Because of our connection with
the Home Hardware chain of inde-
pendent hardware stores we feel we
will keep abreast of the times and
be able to supply the people of
Seaforth," said Mr. Sills.
New services introduced at Sills
include rentals of carpet cleaners,
hand tools and bottled water. Cus-
tomers express their pleasure at the
diverse inventory of hardware,
electrical, plumbing and heating
goods and knowledgeable staff.
The staff at Sills enjoys helping
friends and neighbours with their
household needs and problems. Sills
concentrates on serving local
people.
