The association promotes the downtown. ► Local business organization creates activity in downtown _. The Seaforth Business Improve- ment Association (BIA) is, indeed, 'taking care of business.' The association makes Seaforth an attractive shopping centre by conducting joint promotions with the entire community such as Moonlight Madness (July 22, '94) and the Sidewalk Sale and Com- munity Yard Sale (July 9, '94). "We are an association that can offer support to our members," said Cathy Garrick, BIA coordinator. The BIA was created by a town bylaw on April 13, 1981. The asso- ciation was formed when a group of business people in town approached council to request its assistance in helping them to organize, finance and carry out physical improve- ments and economic revitalization of their district. The municipality collects a special levy from the businesses in the downtown and it's turned over to the BIA to be used for local improvements. The BIA's goal is "to retain the businesses we have in Seaforth, to encourage existing businesses to expand and become more competi- tive and to be sensitive to the needs of our customers." The BIA executive consists of Elsie Willems, chairperson; Dave Deighton, Bob Fisher, Doug Fore- man, Marc Monforton, Stephen Benedict and Marjorie Claus. The association is looking for- ward to seeing more stores provide extended hours. The address of the Seaforth Business Improvement Association is 72 Main St. S., Box 610, Seaforth, Ontario, NOK 1 W0. The telephone number is (519) 527- 0160.
