DANCIN' FOR HEART - Seaforth residents showed they had heart last week by raising about $3,500
for Heart and Stroke research. Here, local people dance up a storm as part of 'Dance for Heart' at the
Seaforth and District Community Centres. Brenda Hawk won a prize for bringing in the highest amount
of money (more than $400 in donations) and Lynda Huard won for the most individual sponsors. Ken
Cardno was emcee for the event which was coordinated, for the eight consecutive year, by Drusilla
Leitch.

St. Columban gets tie
On Sunday, May 29, the Si.
Columban Men's Soccer team
played a game against London
Alianza, and after 90 minutes of
gruelling, sweat -filled soccer, the
game ended in a stalemate.
After having their second and
third games of the scason post-
poned, Si. Columban was more than
ready to kick around the round
piece of leather. St. Columban
would opcn the scoring when John
Jordan made a nice pass to set the
ball over to Dean Martin. Married
life has obviously had no effect on
Martin's soccer skills as he put a
beautiful, low hard shot past the
goal keeper on the short side. That
was all the scoring St. Columban
would do in the half but Alianza
would eventually do some of their
own. Due to a mental lapse by St.
Columban's mid -fielders and
defense, Alianza was able to get a
pair of sloppy goals past the
defenceless, Jason Dietz. The boys
pleaded insanity, Dietz agreed and
the first half ended 2-1 for the 'bad
guys'.
In the second half, there was no
scoring until later on when St.
Columban defender, Jason Vander
Velde made a nice rush down the
side and got the ball to Nehra
Budna. Budna saw some teammate
rushing to the net and placed an
excellent cross that bounced off of
Brian Melady's head and into the
net to the tic game 2-2. St.
Columban would take the lead a
few minutes later when Steve Ryan
worked the ball into the centre to
Brian Melady. Melady performed
his spinaround-heel-the-ball into the
net routine and a surprised St.
Columban team was up 3-2. The
boys were not surprised because
they were winning but rather
because someone actually fell for
such a move.
Unfortunately, St. Columban was
unable to keep the lead for the rest
of the game as the referee awarded
a penalty shot to Alianza with
under 5 minutes left. The London
player scored on the shot and due
to some fine performances by
Mascioli, Jason Dietz and Mike
Murray, the game ended in a 3-3
tic.
St. Columban's next game is
Friday night at 7 p.m. in Mitchell
when they facc London Marconi
and try to get their first win of the
scason.
