MOSS
Mark Coulthard
Moss can sometimes be a problem in lawns. It often occurs in moist and heavily
shaded areas. Moss is lush, bright green, fine textured and low growing.
The best Moss control is achieved by improving the lawn environment. Pruning
overhanging trees will let the sunlight in and increase air circulation. Fertilize the
lawn properly to encourage the grass plants. It is very difficult for Moss to exist
under fertile conditions.
If Moss is a constant, serious problem in your lawn, you may wish to purchase a
Moss control material. After the Moss control is applied and the Moss dies, 0
should be raked up. Additional applications of Moss control can be repeated as
necessary. Fertilizer and correct lawn maintenance practices are critical when
attempting to control moss.
Next Week: Lawn Mowing.
See this space each week for a valuable Weed Man Turf Tip.
