GEORGE D'ORLEAN SILLS
Mr. George D'Orlean Sills died
May 5 in Stratford General Hospi-
tal, the result of a heart attack. He
was 80. D'Orlean Sills was the son
of the late Frances S. Sills and the
former Dorothy Daly.
D'Orlean (Der) was born in
Seaforth May 25, 1913 and lived
here all his life except for his time
in the R.C.A.F. during World War
II.
He was predeceased by his first
wife, the former Norma Habkirk
and his second wife the former
Cora Chesney.
He was a co-owner of Sills Hard-
ware and had been a valued mem-
ber for 60 years.
He had been a member of the
Seaforth Fire Brigade for 35 years
and a former chief.
As a member of the Canadian
Branch 156 of the Legion he had
belonged for 50 years and had been
a past president.
He served 22 years as a Commis-
sioner of the Seaforth Public Util-
ities.
In the Seaforth Highlanders Band
he was a valued member for 34
years.
He was a member of St. James
Roman Catholic church. As a young
man he was a very good athlete and
won the Senior Boys Huron County
Championship.
Surviving are a daughter Darlene
and husband Ron Smyth and
grandchildren Sean, Patrick and
Sarah of Timmins; his sister Mona
Enzensberger and husband Henry of
Seaforth; his brother Frank Sills of
Seaforth. His sister-in-law Nora
Sills of Seaforth. He was prede-
ceased by a brother Tom as well as
a sister-inlaw Dinah, Mrs. Frank
Sills.
Friends were received at W hitney-
Ribey Funeral Home, Seaforth on
Saturday 7-9 and Sunday from 2-4
and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian
burial was celebrated at 12 noon on
Monday, May 9 in St. James
Church with Father Cassano as
celebrant. Soloist was Don Sills.
Pallbearers were Jim Sills, Tom
Sills, Phil Beard, Gerald Townsend,
Neil Johnston, and Len Muegge.
Cremation took place and burial in
St. James Cemetery.
Parish prayers and prayers of the
Knights of Columbus were said on
Saturday night and a service by the
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 156
was held on Sunday night, May 8.
JOHN FLANNERY
John Francis, formerly of
Seaforth, passed away at St.
Joseph's Hospital, Sarnia, on Mon-
day, May 9, 1994, in his 81st year.
John Flannery beloved husband of
Dorothy Cook (McGregor) and the
late Dorothy Bannon. Dear Father
of Carol and her husband Ken Ryan
of Dublin, Mary of Stratford,
Margaret of Seaforth, Brenda and
her husband Bob Telford of Niagara
Falls, Patrick of London, Joseph
and his wife Judy of Tecumseh,
James and his wife Janice of
Komoka; also survived by 10
grandchildren and one great-grand-
daughter and two sisters Catherine
(Mrs. Gordon Reynolds) of Guelph
and Geralda (Mrs. Leonard Dolan)
of Amhurst, Nova Scotia. Prede-
ceased by two sisters Martha and
Theresa and three brothers Louis,
Cyril and James.
John Flannery was former Reeve
of Seaforth and former Mayor of
Seaforth from 1965-67. He was a
member of the Seaforth Legion. He
was a member of the 4th Degree of
Knights of Columbus Father
Stephen Eckert 5289 and 4th
Degree member of Knights of
Columbus Blessed Brother Andre.
He also managed Flannery Cleaners
in Seaforth for many years.
The family will receive friends at
the Whitney-Ribcy Funeral Home
in Seaforth on Tuesday and
Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
Mass of The Christian Burial will
be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St.
James Roman Catholic Church,
Seaforth. Interment St. James Cem-
etery. Fourth Degree Knights of
Columbus service was held at the
funeral home Tuesday evening. A
Royal Canadian Legion service will
be held at the Funeral Home,
Wednesday evening at 8:30.
Expressions of sympathy may be
made to the charity of your choice
or the Scaforth Community Hospi-
tal.
THOMAS ALMER HANDY
Thomas Almer Handy passed
away in Seaforth Manor on May 9,
1994 in his 90th year. He is
survived by his wife Mabel
(Collins) Handy of Scaforth Manor.

Handy, Oshawa; Elizabeth (Owen)
Johnson, New Brunswick; Charlie
(Esther) Handy, Vanastra; Carol
($ddie) Weeks, Elgin; Brenda (Joe)
Murphy, Elgin; Nancy (Ed)
Cattermole, Sundbexry. Predeceased
by his first wife Elizabeth (Kay)
Handy (1954). Brother of the late
Margaret Sizer, Ida Grainger, Mary
Link, Louise Brown, Robert Jessie,
William James and Frank Handy.
Loved by 14 grandchildren; 6
step -grandchildren; and 11 great
grandchildren.

MADELYN DUBRICK
Mrs. Madelyn Dubrick of RR 2
Monkton passed away at Listowel
Memorial Hospital on Tuesday.
May 3, 1994 in her 79th year. She
was the former Madelyn Jane
Longeway and was born in Logan
Township on November 17, 1915, a
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Joseph Ferdinand Longeway. On
June 29, 1940, she was married to
Ross F. Dubrick who predeceased
heron September 18, 1991. Follow-
ing their marriage, the couple
resided in Kitchener moving to
Logan Township in 1949 where
Mrs. Dubrick operated Madelyn's
Grocery until the mid 1970s. She
was a member of St. Brigid's
Roman Catholic Church, Logan and
was a member of the Catholic
Women's League of the parish. She
is survived by a son Dennis
Dubrick and his wife Gayle of
Petersburg, two daughters Jane
Wilkie and her husband Ross of
Harriston and Heather Cronin and
her husband Jerry of St. Columban,
a sister Florence Smith of Seaforth
and by eight grandchildren. Besides
her husband, she was predeceased
by a grandson Joseph Cronin
(1969), nine sisters; Sister Michael
Francis, Josephine Hool, Loretta
Hool, Mary Uniac, Helen Lucier,
Margaret Richards, Teresa Conway,
Irene Brown and Rita Kelly and by
two brothers; Pat Longeway and
Fergus Longeway.
Friends were received at the
Lockhart Funeral Home in Mitchell.
Mass of the Christian Burial was
celebrated at St. Brigid's R.C.
Church, Logan on Saturday with
Rev. W. Gutowski - celebrant. The
reader for the Mass was Helen
Young. Flower bearers were Jill
and Christine Wilkie - both grand-
daughters. Pall bearers were Mike
Cronin, David Cronin, Tod Wilkie,
Shawn Dubrick, Geoffery Dubrick
and Andrew Dubrick - all grand-
sons. Interment in St. Vincent de
Paul Cemetery, Mitchell.
MARY ELLEN WILLIAMS
Mrs. Mary Ellen Williams, of
Downsview, Ontario, passed away
in Tobago on Sunday, April 24,
1994 at the age of 52.
She was a bank clerk in
Downsview and a member of Sev-
enth Day Adventist Church.
Mary Ellen Williams was born in
Seaforth, Ontario to Margaret
(Ross) and Dr. John Gorwill. Dr.
Gorwill is now deceased.
She is survived by her husband,
Carl Williams. Also survived by
brothers and sisters Dr. Hugh
Gorwill and wife Carolyn, of
Kingston; Nora Bridle, of Zurich;
Ruth and Joe Van Rooijen, of
Brockville; Joan and Wally
Kalechstein, of Deep River and
John Gorwill and wife Lyn of Lon-
don. Also survived by nieces and
nephews Susan Gorwill-Griffiths,
Ann Gorwill, Tom Gorwill, Joann
Bridle, Peter Van Rooijen, Simon
Kalechstein, Sara Kalechstein and
Jaclyn Gorwill.
Funeral service was held at Sev-
enth Day Church in Downsview on
Sunday, May 1. Visiting at Box and
Smith Funeral Chapel on Monday,
May 2, 1994 when funeral service
was held at First Presbyterian
Church, Seaforth at 10 a.m. on
Tuesday, May 3, 1994.
Rev. James Sloan of First Presby-
terian and Pastor Dave Toop offici
ated. Complete funeral and commit-
tal held at the church. Interment
Maitlandbank Cemetery.
As a tribute to the life of Mrs.
Williams a tree will be planted in
her memory.
Spring concert is held
St. Patrick's School, Dublin, held
a very successful and entertaining
Spring Concert - 'Folklores and
Fairy Tales' during last week's
Education Week, with the theme
'With the Future in Mind.'
Last Wednesday, a crowded gym-
nasium enjoyed seeing their
children or fiends entertain! The
program consisted of drama -
'Belinda and the Beast', 'Beauty
and the Beast,' 'Cinderella' (in
English and French), 'Snow White
and the Seven Nerds' (written by
the class), and Ballad 'Dangerous
Dan MacGrew,' dramatized by
Grade 8. Music consisted of piano
solos, groups singing, quartet, and
vice-principal (Justin Tomasulo)
playing his flute.
The concert ended with 'Dare to
Dream.' Principal Don Farwell
welcomed everyone.
A special congratulations and
thanks to the teachers who organ-
ized and directed this concert and to
the students who did a 'great job'!
On Friday the week concluded
with a Mass and presentation of
flowers in honour of 'Mary in
May'.
Katie Murray enjoyed a visit by
her three daughters - Louise
Maloney, Kitchener, Rose Marie
Murray, Waterloo and Catherine

Tammy Borysiut, Stratford and her
three children - Tammy, Grant, and
Daniel.
Deepest sympathy of the com-
munity is extended to Mrs.
Margaret Gorwill (Seaforth) on the
sudden death of her daughter (Ellen
Williams) who went to Tobago to
bring her mother home after an
enjoyable winter. Sympathy also to
Ellen's husband (Carl) and to other
members of Ellen's family, relatives
and friends.
Home to celebrate Mothers' Day
with Don and Eileen MacRae were

• At the general meeting of the
Legion ladies' Auxiliary last
Wednesday the election of officers
for 1994-95 was held with the
following being elected: President,

Doig; Treasurer, Mar Ungarian;
Secretary - Barbara Scott; Sgt. -At -
Arms - Eva Brown; assistant -
Barbara Cook; Executive Commit-

Thelma Coombs, Ina McGrath,
Angela Smith, Jackie Racho; Audi-

May 13 the Auxiliary will be going
to Clinton with the Branch for the
joint installation of officers.
Two teams of Bowlers went to
Goderich for their invitational
bowling and for the third year in a
row Seaforth brought home the
trophy. Congratulations!
Any Auxiliary member interested
in going on the annual bus trip, this
year to Montreal and Quebec City
please contact Mary Doig or Pat
Shellenberger by June 1. They have
to know how many are going.
Members of the Branch travelled
to Parkwood Hospital on Saturday
to assist with the veterans.
The Mother's day Sunday dinner
was once again a huge success.

Thelma and Fern would like to
thank everyone who helped in any
ways. They also apologise to any-
one who did not get served. 320
people had been served and unfor-
tunately food just ran out. These
dinners will be held every month
during the summer. Dates as fol-

September 4.
Sports officer Linda Gridzak
reports that the qualifying round for
the zone golf will be held this
Saturday, May 15 at 9 a.m. at the
Seaforth golf course.
The Branch was saddened Last
week to hear of the death of Com-
rade D'Orlean Sills. A Legion
service was held Sunday night. To
his daughter Darlene, his family
and friends we extend our deepest
sympathies.
Also the Branch was saddened to
heeaanipf the death of Comrade John
Flannery. To his wife and family
we express our deepest sympathy.
'Age shall not weary them nor the
years condemn. At the doing down
of the sun and in the morning we
will remember them.'
