4-H club members 'fitness fanatics'
BY DENISE MEAGHER
A local club is 'fanatical' Club members learned a new
about fitness. At its second line dance, 'The Bop' at their
meeting the St. Columban 4-H April 28 meeting at St.
club announced its new name, Columban Hall. Julianne Ryan
the 'Fitness Fanatics.' opened the meeting with the 4-H
pledge. Ann Murray read two
pages from members' books.
The next meeting of the St.
Columban Fitness Fanatics will
be May 5 at 7:00 p.m.
Booster revenue
down for Cents
continued from page seven
Departing treasurer Bosman pres-
ented figures to the meeting that
indicate a significant decline in
booster club revenues in 1993-94
was partially offset by a near doubl-
ing in gate receipts, reflecting the
team's success upon the ice.
Booster club revenues were down
$9,724.30 from the previous state-
ment but gate receipts rose to
$11,459, up from '92-93 figure of
$5,845.
The club showed a bank balance
of $300.56 as of March 31, the
difference between last season's
receipts of $62,204.24 and expenses
of $61,328. This is down from
when the club went through
$72,000 -plus three seasons back,
but up from '92-93 figures of
$54,369 and $54,069.07, respective-
ly.
Much of last season's increases
on both sides of the ledger can be
accounted for by 20th anniversary
season activities, according to
Campbell, the big ones being the
Centenaires' anniversary game and
banquet last November and the
league awards banquet two week-
ends ago.
Ice rental continued to the club's
biggest expense last season (previ-
ous season's figures in brackets) at
$12,047.50 ($9,809.20), for a total
of $45,325.99 over the past five
seasons. Equipment costs were
down at $10,281.19 ($11,055.91),
mileage costs stood at $4,547.64
($4,212.92), referees cost $4,410
($3,597) and various OHA fees
amounted to $4,410.00 ($3,597).
At an OHA Junior Development
League meeting at Belmont
Wednesday governors were told last
season's annual all-star game at
Lucan netted a profit of about
$2,800, which will be divided
amongst the 18 member clubs. The
withdrawal of Alvinston was
approved and an application for
admission fro t St. George was
heard.

Maplewood
welcomes new

It sure is nice to see the tulips
and other flowers out in bloom.
Residents at Maplewood said a
fond farewell to Nita Leonhardt
who has been the hairdresser at
Maplewood for the past sixears.
Maplewood would like to welcome
new hairdresser Ann Dayman.
The St. Columban Catholic
Women's League brought a touch
of spring to Maplewood. Residents
with painted flower pots and
planted pansies.
Residents also enjoyed an after-
noon of cards with the senior citi-
zens. Thanks go to Olave Little for
the invitation.
The residents at Maplewood spent
an enjoyable afternoon listening to
the Harmony Kings and Harmony
Hi-Lites, an excellent performance.
Another successful fashion show
was held at Maplewood. Special
thanks to Betty Oldacre, Marjory
Maloney, Viola Lawson, Olive
Papple, Dorothy Papple and Inge
Lindeman for modelling the spring
and summer fashions.
Lots of residents enjoyed the
music of the Stratford Old Tyme
Band. The twenty -member group
played the good old favorits that
prompted some fancy steps from
Maplewood residents.
Monthly visits from Marion Rose,
Bill Gibson and Carol Carter keep
residents voices in tune and toes
tapping.
Weekly euchre and bingo games
help to pass the afternoons at
Maplewood, especially now that the
weather is so rotten.
Hopefully the month of May will
bring some warmer weather!
