LAWRENCE RYAN
Lawrence Ryan, 87, died Sunday,
March 27 at Seaforth Community
Hospital. He is survived by his
wife, the former Marjorie Elizabeth
Reid.
He is also survived by two daugh-
ters, Joan and husband Don
McDonald, of Montreal and Sister
Teresa, of Peru; five sons, Robert
and Barbara Ryan, of London,
Gerald and Anne Ryan, of Walton,
Jim and Betty Ryan, of Brussels;
John and Marianna Ryan of Walton
and Nelson Ryan, of Walton. Also
surviving are 19 grandchildren, nine
great-grandchildren and sisters,
Florence Speak, of Woodstock, and
Eileen Scott, of North Dakota.
He was predeceased by sisters
Marie and Madeline, and by
brothers Jim, Joe and Gordon.
Friends called at the Betts Funeral
Home, Brussels, on Tuesday, March
29 where prayers were said in the
evening. Funeral mass will be held
on Wednesday, March 30 (today) at
11 a.m. at St. Ambrose Roman
Catholic Church, Brussels. Burial
will be in St. Ambrose Cemetery,
Brussels.

At Sarnia General Hospital on
Monday, March 21, 1994 Stanley
G. Preszcator of Forest and
formerly of Clinton and Crediton
died in his 73rd year. Beloved
husband of Shirley (Regele)
(Glanville) Preszcator. Dear father
of Larry and his friend Emily of
Exeter, Edward and his friend Judy
of London, Wilfred and his wife
Ann of Egmondville, Tammy and
her friend Miran of Exeter, Barb
Durrell and her husband Mike of
Walton, step -father of Richard and
his wife Mary Ellen of Parkhill,
David and his wife Rose of
Atwood, Mae and her husband
Jerry Dallierr of Kitchener, Elaine
and her husband Robert England of
Huron Park, Katherine Arbo and
her friend Dave of Exeter, Lorna
Barnes and her friend Ken of
Thedford, Brenda Farr and her
husband Carl of Auburn. Barbara
Isaac and her husband Dave of
Crediton. Also survived by 35
grandchildren, and eight great-
grandchildren. Dear brother of
Kenneth Preszcator-.of-. Seaforth;
Ruby Hodgins of London; Shirley,
Mrs. Ted Wright; Phyllis, Mrs.
Emery Pfaff; Helen, Mrs. Gordon
Smith all of Exeter; Thelma, Mrs.
Edsel Ducharme of Seaforth. Dear
son-in-law of Mrs. and Mrs.
Norman Hubley of Seaforth.
Predeceased by a brother Howard,
grandchildren Ronald Foran and
Nicole Preszcator and step -son
Murray Glanville. Hopper Hockey
Funeral Home, Exeter were in
charge of arrangements.
MORRIS HEMINGWAY
Morris Bertram Hemingway of
RR 3 Brussels, passed away sud-
denly at his residence on Wednes-
day, March 23, 1994 in his 51st
year.
Beloved son of the late Bertram
and Viola Hemingway. Morris is
survived by one aunt, Eleanor
Hemingway, of Brussels, and sev-
eral cousins. Rested at Betts
Funeral Home Brussels Chapel,
March 26 with funeral service Sun-
day, March 27, 1994 from the
funeral home with Rev. Cam
McMillan officiating. Interment
Brussels Cemetery. Donations to
the Brussels Youth Centre The Ark
or a charity of your choice would
be appreciated.

Local woman receives award
for highest provincial mark
Joyce Fell recently spent several
days in Oshawa, attending the
Ontario Registered Music Teacher's
Association (ORMATA) conven-
tion. She was presented with the
Cora B Ahrens Award from
ORMTA for obtaining the highest
mark in the province in her written
Teacher's Piano Pedogogy examin-
ation, taken through the Western
Ontario Conservatory of Music,
London. Her parents also attended
the convention. Last week Joyce
was also awarded first class hon-
ours in her Grade 10 singing exam-
ination from the Conservatory.
John and Roberta Templeman
were guests at the 50th anniversary
party for Philip and Leona Hem, at
the Legion Hall, Exeter.
Esther Smale hosted the Agricul-
ture and Canadian Industries meet-
ing at her home on Wednesday,
March 23 at 1:30 p.m. Guest
speaker for the aftemoon was Barb
McCaughey who works at Horizon-
Sneiders in St. Marys. Barb showed
a video on the chicken line and the
procession procedure and answered
questions. Participants also had the
opportunity to sample some chicken
wings. Barb was introduced by
Joyce Miller and thanked by Freda
Kerslake, who had planned the
meeting.
President Joyce Miller presided
opened with the Institute Ode and
Mary Stewart Collect. Minutes were
read by Secretary Lillian Douglas
and the correspondence dealt with.
Members were reminded of the
Mitchell Fair Display, yesterday and
Staffa
by Roberta Templeman

today. Freda is still looking for
someone to sponsor for Queen of
the fair.
An invitation to join Goulds, as
they celebrate their 75th at Main
Street church June 9, was read.
District Director Kay Smale
reported on the recent District
executive meeting. She mentioned,
the workshop at Centralia April 7.
The District is selling rose bushes
as a centennial project and anyone
wishing to order Adelaide hoodless
rose, must contact Vivian Skinner
before April 1.
District Annual will be held at
Kirkton Community Centre on May
10 with Staffa responsible for the
guest speaker. Roll CaII was to
name a favourite flower or plant. It
was answered by 10 members and
one visitor. For her gardening hint
Lilian Douglas told how important
it is to mulch plants in the garden.
The special guest for the after-
noon was District President, Jean
Morris, who brought greetings and
left everyone with lots to think
about. Jean was introduced by
Joyce and thanked by Roberta=- --
Following the closing of the
meeting a auction of plants, slips
and bulbs was held. All enjoyed a
social time and lunch was served by
the hostess Esther, Joyce Miller,
and Roberta Templeman.
McCONNELL-
SISTER ST. DAVID
Formerly Mary McConnell, Sister
St. David entered Eternal Life on
March 27, 1994 in Public General
Hospital, Chatham at age 91 and in
the 67th year of herlife as an
Ursuline Religious of the Diocese
of London. Born in Dublin, Ontario,
in 1902, she was the daughter of
the late David McConnell and Rose
Carpenter. Sister St. David taught in
Windsor before being appointed to
Leadership in the Ursuline Com-
munity. She served as Superior of
Glengarda (1940-1945), Directress
of the Novitiate (1945-1957) and
General Superior (1957-1968):- in
her later years she lived at the
House of Prayer in Tilbury before
returning to Windsor where she
resided at St. Ursula's. She served
as a home helper during this time
and then lived in the Novitiate
house on Oak Street, and finally at
Glengarda. She came to 'The Pines'
Infirmary when she became ill in
The Ausable Bayfield Conservation

1991. She is survived by a sister,
Sister Janet McConnell M.M. of
Monrovia, California, and several
nieces and nephews. Three brothers,
Joseph, Patrick and Father John
M.M. and one sister, Jean
Dingeman predeceased her. A
Wake Service was held in 'The
Pines' Chapel, Chatham, on Tues-
day, March 29, 1994. The Mass of
Resurrection will be celebrated on
Wednesday, March 30, 1994
(today) in Holy Family Chapel,
'The Pines', Chatham, Ontario at 10
a.m. Interment will be in St.
Anthony's Cemetery.

Wedding anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Roe cel-
ebrated their 57th wodding anniver-
sary on Sunday, March 27 at their
residence in Maplewood Manor. A
small surprise party was attended
by family and friends. A special
thank you is extended to all those
who participated and to the staff at
Maplewood Manor for their assist-
ance.
