Seaforth beat Exeter 3-1 in a best - of -five series. EXETER 2 - SEAFORTH 1 Up 2-0 in the series, the Midgets went to Exeter last Wednesday night along with a large contingent of fans. Right from the start it was obvious that Seaforth was not sharp. At 5:77 of the first period Exeter scored on a two -on -one. Things looked bleak until sixty -goal player Jason Murray buried a shot from the circle on the powerplay. The winning goal was scored at 7:48 of the second period when a shot deflected off a Seaforth defender and onto an unsuspecting but charging Exeter player. With the defense caught out of position and goaltender Adam Agar understanding flat-footed, the winning goal was scored. Late seiges by Seaforth were exciting but were to no avail and the Midgets went home extremely angry. SEAFORTH 3 - EXETER 1 Still angry about missing the sweep three nights earlier, Seaforth realized chances of winning game five in Exeter are not nearly as favourable as winning garne four at home. Excellent defense and brilliant saves by Adam Agar held the garne scoreless in the first period of game four. At 5:45 of the second period Colin Devereaux nearly blazed a hole in the mesh to give Seaforth a 1-0 edge. Exeter answered back at 2:55. The period ended 1-1 and set up the showdown in the third. Seaforth was 15 minutes of hockey away from the DAVID SOOTT PHOTO COVER-UP - Exeter's goaltender covers up the puck in the crease as players collide during Saturday night's Midget playoff hockey at the Seaforth and District Community Centre. Seaforth won a closely fought match 3-1 winning the best of five series against Exeter three games to one. finals. Exeter just wanted to stay alive. At 11:08 of the third, Jason Henderson knocked in a rebound for the game winner. Pandemonium broke loose at the Seaforth Arena. Fathers and mothers cheered and cried and babies took their first steps...and for good measure, Wayne Schoonderwoerd scored at 7:38 to lock away the victory. Exeter had waited all year to play for the All -Ontario finals but the Seaforth Midgets proved stronger. Timely goals for the forwards, toughness from the defense, and solid goaltending between the pipes gave Seaforth the edge. Seaforth has not lost at home in the playoffs and only once all year. ON TAP Seaforth plays Aylmer for the A11 -Ontario title. Game dates and times will be posted at the arena as well as in the London Free Press under Minor Hockey, Midget CC.
