Novicesla ed Stephen in close battle p Y After posting an eight -game win- ning streak, the Seaforth Novice I's hockey schedule recently became a homer's series in their playoffs against Stephen Township. The series was tied last week at two victories apiece, and, with Stephen Township having the extra game, the locals hoped to reverse that trend to advance to the next round. The first game in the series was a hard fought 4-3 Seaforth victory. Seaforth jumped to an early 1-0 lead on Steve Carnochan's goal, assisted by Jason Denys. Barry Young made it 2-0, with Josh Hol- land drawing the assist. Young and Holland combined again to give Seaforth a 3-1 lead with Holland as - the trigger -man on Seaforth's third goal. Mike Del Vecchio's goal in the third, with Denys and Camochan assisting, turned out to be the winner and, even though Stephen Township scored two late goals, Seaforth carted off a well- earned 4-3, one -game series lead. Game two in Huron Park was a different matter as the short-handed Novices ran out of steam in the third period and were outscored 5 to 2 in the fetal frame. Seaforth eventually succumbed to the Stephen barrage in the 7-4 loss. Josh Holland was involved in all Seaforth's goals, scoring one and helping to set up others by Barry Young, Mike Del Vecchio and Jason Denys. Del Vecchio earned two assists along with his goal. During game three in the local Blacksmith shop opened in 1894 Mr. John McIntosh, a former Seaforth boy, and who has been in London for some time, hag fitted up and opened out a blacksmithing shop on Goderich Street, behind Mr. D. Joey Nesbitt tumed in a stellar perform- ance, using his speed and scored twice and helped set up two more. Josh Holland continued with his outstanding play, scoring and assist- ing twice as well. Also contributing to the attack were Steve Carnochan and, fireplug, Barry Young with sin*letons. Nick Elligsen had two assists and Mike Del Vecchio had one. Game four in Huron Park gave Seaforth the chance to advance to the next round. However, the hosts -handed Seaforth "a 4-3 OVERime • loss. The fourth game, the most exciting of the series, had Seaforth fighting back from deficits twice, as they extended Stephen Township to the dying seconds of overtime. Seaforth found itself down 2-0 before Nick Elligsen, assisted by Josh Holland, narrowed the gap to one goal. Elligsen set up Barry Young to tie the game at two. A scoreless third period sent the game into ten minutes of overtime. Stephen Township made it 3-2 but Joey Nesbitt tied the game on a screened shot from the point. Des- pite missing several glorious oppor- tunities, it was not to be, and Seaforth lost 4-3 on a late goal. by`a..a maw Mark Coulthard "SPRING CLEAN UP" The very first step you should take to get your lawn off to a good start, is a thorough raking with a good, stiff leaf rake. Use a leaf rake rather than a steel garden rake. The garden rake will tear away too many parts of the turfgrass during this time of year. A thorough raking will remove the surface accumulation of old leaves and twigs from the fall and winter. Spring raking will reju- venate the turfgrass plants by exposing them to air and light. This freshly -raked grass is ready for your first application of fertilizer. Next Week: Spring Lawn Care.
