Build it and they will come.
People did just that. They came
by the thousands to the Inter-
national Plowing Match (IPM)
hosted in Bruce County last Sep-
tember. Over 150,000 people at-
tended the event that was years in
the making. Victoria County, host
of the 1992 match, had about half
that number in attendance.
"We tried to promote and adver-
tise to urban people there was
something here for them too," said
Jack Cumming, IPM Chairman.
The trailer park, for the first time
not located adjacent to the match
site, had over 1,200 units register
throughout the week. Fifty-one
tractors pulled the 83 wagons that
trtsported visitors to and from the
match site.
Months of site preparation made
way for the erection of a 100 -acre
tented city, featuring demonstrations
to suit rural and urban visitors
alike. Over 300 tents housed anti-
que displays, fashion shows and
shops selling everything from t -
shirts to leather, catering to even
the most particular browser.
"It's now a total community ef-
fort. You have to involve more than
rural people to make it a success,"
said Cumming.
The Machines in Motion, a
demonstration of various farm
machinery in action, was a fust for
any plowing match and will most
likely be an ongoing part of future
matches.

to stay stagnant and the OPA (O-
ntario Plowmen's Association) gave
