Nominations being accepted for Governor General's Awards Nominations are now being accepted for the 1994 Governor General's Awards in Commemor- ation of the Persons Case. The annual Awards recognize longstanding and substantial contri- butions made by individuals towards promoting the equality of women in Canada. Initiated in 1979 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Persons Case, the Awards commemorate the lengthy political and legal effort waged by Canadian women, which culminated in the decision rendered by the British Privy Council on October 18, 1929, declaring Cana- dian women to be persons and thus eligible for appointment to the Senate. Two weeks left in senior bowling Senior Bowling is winding down, just two more weeks left. Hurray for the "Olds". They came through with seven points lifting them out of the basement. This was due to the excellent bowling of the whole team especially John Aubin's 214 and Nancy Mitchell's 205. The "Buicks" are now the low team. The "Chevies" have come within three points of the "Fords" who still remain in top place. The next two weeks should be very interesting with high and low teams unknown, Beryle Reid had high single 210 and Ann Wood high triple 542 for the ladies. John Van Loon once again had both high single 268 and triple 655. Others over 200 were Eric Matzold 210, Ron Bennett 216. The Senior Bowling Banquet is April 5. The Governor General's Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case are presented in a ceremony held in Ottawa. Nominations may be submitted by individuals, women's groups, community and business groups, and others. The deadline for the submission of nominations is May 15, 1994.
