TIMBER! - This member of the Lucan Irish wasn't showing any of
the Irish Tuck here as he tries to prevent falling over a Seaforth
Centenaires player in the exciting Junior 'D' series.
Centenaires win seven
straight playoff games
The Seaforth Centenaires continue
to astound!
They moved to within one game
of the Western Division finals with
three straight wins over the peren-
nial powerhouse Lucan Irish Six in
the Ontario Hockey Association
Junior Development League semi-
finals last week.
The luck of these Irish abandoned
ship at Lucan Sunday afternoon
where the Cents throttled them 7-1,
after a heart -stopping triple -over-
time 3-2 thriller at Seaforth Friday
night. Both wins came in the wake
of a shorthanded 3-1 "upset" vic-
tory, insured only by an empty -net
goal with seven second left to play,
in the series opener at Lucan last
Wednesday.
Game four in the best -of -seven
series was slated for Seaforth last
night (Tuesday). Results weren't
available at press time. If a game
five In necessary it will be played
at Lucan tonight (Wednesday) at
8:15. A game six, again if necess-
ary, would be back in Seaforth
Friday night at 8:30, with a game
seven at Lucan Sunday afternoon at
3 p.m.
The arch -rival Mitchell Hawks
lead the other semi-final and will
likely be the other division finalist,
should Seaforth get through the
next round by winning that crbcial
fourth game. If this happens, it
would be the first time in nine
seasons the Irish have not reached
the division final.
The Cents have been doing more
than all right so far with seven -
straight playoff wins, playing a
disciplined and entertaining style
backed by solid goaltending and
getting big performances from
different players when it really
counts.
Steve McInally had a weekend
local hockey buffs who saw it
won't soon forget. Playing on a line
with wiley local veterans Paul
McLlwain and Ted Sills, he earned
a hat trick and assist Sunday. The
speedy 16 -year-old forward who
skates full speed both ways and is
very creative with the puck, also
ended Friday night's marathon
when his "flukey" second goal of
the game was the winner at 7:53 of
the third overtime. In between, on
Saturday, he scored twice and
nailed a couple of beautiful passes
to help the Seaforth Midgets host
the Exeter Generals to a 3-1 loss,
and so take a 2-0 lead in their
OMHA "CC" semi-final.
Cents' goaltender Dana Duskocy
also continues to shine and domi-
nate behind the Seaforth blueline,
now having given up a meagre 14
goals in seven playoff games
against some of the league's
deadliest shooters from Exeter and
now Lucan.
GAME THREE
The temp was slow and Lucan
looked flat from the outset but only
trailed 1-0 after the opening period.
Then the floodgates inexplicably

semi-final.
opened as McLlwain added two
goals to Mclnally's three, and
singles were chipped in by Andy
Scott and Chad Papple as the
Centenaires won it going away.
Papple's goal with 36 seconds left
in the second period was a big
emotional lift, giving Seaforth a
three goal lead going into the third
at 4-1. Sills had a couple of assists.
Kalen Carroll, Jason Beuttenmiller
and Joe Murray added singles.
The Irish were given 10 of the 16
minor penalties handed out by
referee Paul Petrie. Each team also
had a misconduct.
GAME TWO
This classic nail biter took just
under four and a half hours to
settle, ending with much noise and
jumping up__andw._down by an
enthusiastic home crowd at eight
minutes before one on Saturday
morning. Lucan goaltender Steve
Watson, who matched Duskocy
save for save, got a piece of the
McInally shot that ended it. He
batted it back off one of his own
defencemen and it then went over
his shoulder and the line.
McLlwain's equalizer, 14 seconds
after Lucan's Greg Deprest had
given the Irish a 2-1 lead by tuck-
ing one home through a sliver of
space on the short side with slightly
more than three minutes left in
regulation time, quickly rekindled
Seaforth's spirits and showed they
weren't going down without a fight.
The Centenaires had about five
breath -taking scoring chances but
the two teams, both basically going
with two lines at this point, then
played scoreless until well into the
third overtime. Sills helped set up
two of the Seaforth goals and
Beuttenmiller and Karston Carroll
each added one assist. Referee
Blake Moggy gave Lucan 19 minor
penalties and a game misconduct.
Seaforth had 18 minors, a miscon-
duct and game misconduct.
GAME ONE
For the second series in a row the
Centenaires opened as an underdog
with a win in their opponent's rink.
Duskocy stood the Irish on their
ear, as they outshot Seaforth 35 to
25 including a 14-7 edge in the
third period. But the Centenaires,
who were shorthanded with only 14
skaters, got the goals. Andy Scott
and McLlwain gave Seaforth a 2-0
lead after the first period, Lucan got
one back to narrow it to 2-1 after
two periods, but Steve Geiger iced
it for the Cents with an empty-
neuer with seven seconds left on
the clock. Sills, Ben Sen and Scott
Wright all had assists. Each team
took only three minors in the game.
Referee Jeff Smith also gave the
Irish a game misconduct for check-
ing from behind.
Tykes exit tourney early
In the Annual Clinton Minor
Hockey Tyke Tournament the
Seaforth Tykes exited early losing
their second game to a tough
Wingham squad.
SEAFORTH 1S - HENSALI. 1
A lengthy disabled list was no
great shortcoming in this game. The
Tykes played the entire game short-
handed since only eight players
were present and no double shifting
was allowed. The offensive stars of
the game for Seaforth were
Callahan O'Reilly, and Matthew
Dalton who potted five goals
apiece. Also figuring into the
offence were Matthew Camochan,
David Verberne and Tyler Elligsen.
Bradley Henderson played well as
Seaforth's goalie of the game.
WINGHAM 3 - SEAFORTH 1
In the best -played game at that
point in the tournament the two
teams played at a furious pace.
Wingham thought they had opened
the scoring at the beginning of the
middle frame. However, when the
referee went to scoop the puck up
for the centre ice faceoff he found
two pucks. One left in the goal
from the pre -game warmup and the
other underneath our star goalie
Matthew Dalton. Wingham did
open the scoring seconds later on a
breakaway. David Verberne scored
the equalizer on nice passes from
Tyler Elligsen and Matthew
Camochan. Steady play by Brittany
Williams, Stephen Medd, Adam
Broome and Ryan Nurse kept the
ferocious Wingham attack at bay
throughout the game. Wingham shot
ahead 3-1 at the start of the final
frame.
