J. David Murray Singer workshop held Many people that sing Barber shop music will have heard of Al Baker from Thorold, Ont. The Seaforth Harmony Hi -Liles were very privileged to have him come and lead a workshop for the group. Al is the Sound Judge for Harmony Inc. and goes around helping choruses work on their sound pro- duction, teaching proper breathing etc. Margaret Whitmore, Patty Banks, Ruth Axtmann and Lillian Raithby, all from the Walton area, attended the Sat. event. The chorus is now working on their songs for the May competition and also for the men's Spring show. Stanley Hillen went home to celebrate his 90th birthday. The century farm where he was born is now owned by his daughter and her husband, Margaret and Bruce Whitmore. Margaret and Bruce hosted a family dinner for the cel- ebration of her dad's birthday. She said that he is a young 90 year-old and enjoys good health and was very delighted to visit with the 30 people that were there that day. So often at Church meals you see only women in the kitchen doing all the work. That's why on Sunday at the Pancake breakfast it was such a treat to see a number of men work- ing in the kitchen. Graeme Craig, using his secret family hot -cake recipe, was busy mixing the batter J Walton by Patty Banks 887-6860 while over at the stove Howard Hackwell was doing a very finc job of cooking the sausages. There were two skillets full of very deli- cious flapjacks being expertly flipped by Paul McCallum and Barry Hoegy (dressed in suits even). The egg cooking was.handed over to Heidi McClure this year while Rev. Banks was delegated to running the toaster. In charge of the whole affair was Jo -Ann' McDonald. It was well attended and not one complaint about the food was heard. Well done everyone. Greeters on this Transfiguration Sunday at Duff's United were John and Pat Gillis. Rev. Banks announced that Bible Study will continue Feb. 16 at Bluevale. Next Sunday will be the first Sunday of Lent and Communion will be served. The money collected from our Lenten project will go to Pueblito, a non-government organiz- ation in Latin America that starts up back -yard schools for street kids. For next Sunday everyone is to put in 10 cents per toothbrush in the home. Obituaries JOHNSTON Kassandra Lynn, infant daughter of Scott Johnston and the former Ann Moran of Listowel, passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 1994 at Listowel Memorial Hospital. Survived by Grandparents Ralph and Carol Johnston of Seaforth and Pat and Patsy Moran of Listowel and Martin and Brenda Woodcock of Cambridge, several aunts, uncles and cousins. GEERTJE GROBBINK Gccrtje Grobbink of Wingham ' (formerly of Walton), passed away on Sat., Feb. 12, 1994 at Braemar Nursing Home, Wingham, in her 87th year. She was the beloved wife of the late Bernarus Grobbink who pre- deceased here in 1982; loving mother of Catherine Grobbink of Toronto, Marianna and John Ryan of Walton, Emm and Ted Vander Wouden of Bayfield, Henry and Mary Ann Grobbink of Walton; loved grandmother of 17 grandchildren and pre -deceased by six brothers and one sister. Visitation was held at Bett Funeral Home, Brussels on Mon., Feb. 14, 1994. Funeral mass was celebrated at 11 a.m., Tues., Feb. 15, 1994 from St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church, Brussels. Inter- ment in the spring at St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Stephen Ryan, Joe Ryan, Marijan Grobbink, Anita Vander Wouden, Carl Vander Wouden and Jeff Grobbink. Legion senior bowlers win third at tournament Last Saturday our Senior Bowling team travelled to Elmira for the District Tournament. They came in third. Congratulations on your finish there are 52 Legions in the District. There were 10 tables in play at the Fraternal Affiliate Euchre on Saturday. Blyth was the winner. The Service Officer will be at the Branch on Feb. 17 at 9 am. Please contact Cleave Coombs for an appointment. The annual Public Speaking con- test for local and area schools will be held on Feb. 20 at 2,p.m. This is a very worthwhile and entertaining afternoon. The Zone finals will also be held at Branch 156 on March 6 more on this later. The General meeting will be held this Thursday Feb. 17 please try to attend and have a part in the run- ning of the Branch. There is a new T.V. in the down- stairs lounge. I'm sure all the mem- bers will enjoy it. Just in time to watch members Lloyd Eisler and Isabelle Brasseur in the Olympics.
