ringette team played three more
games in the last week defeating St.
Marys twice and losing one to
Cambridge.
Cambndge "AA" invited Seaforth
to play an exhibition game on
Sunday, Jan. 25 in Hespeler.
Although the Teams played the first
five minutes with no scoring, the
Cambridge offence finally broke
through and scored four goals in
four minutes to take a 4-0 lead.
Seaforth scored their only goal of
the game when Becky deVries
found the net on passes from
Marsha Denys and Jenny
DelVecchio. The Sizzlers held
Cambridge scoreless in the second
period until the last minute of the
game when Seaforth pulled the
goalie to try an offensive attack and
Cambridge scored in the empty net.
Cambridge won the game 5-1, their
second victory over the Sizzlers this
season.
On Tuesday, Jan. 25, the Sizzlers

Pee Wees start
playoffs with
winning game
On Sunday, Jan. 30 the Seaforth
Peewee I team met Durham for
playoffs in Seaforth with the local
squad taking the first game 6 to 4.
Sean Ludwig and Steve Phillips
shared the goal -tending position.
J.D. Nolan picked up Ben Murray's
pass and started the scoring. After
that he passed the puck to Scott
Van Dooren who set up Tim Sills
to up the score by two. Durham
kept things even with two quick
goals to tie the game. Van Dooren
scored the next two goals. The first
was a wraparound and shortly after,
he picked up a pass from Craig
Somerville and scored. Durham
picked up their third goal only to be
answered by a wrap-around goal by
Scott Henderson and a goal by
Derek Nesbitt assisted by Jason
Hulley and Henderson. Durham was
able to score once more in the last
minute of play.
On Friday, Jan. 28 North London
came to play Seaforth in an exhibi-
tion game with the Peewees.
Seaforth had an easy 8-3 win and
over hotdogs and pop, made some
new friends after the game. Sean
Ludwig, Steve Phillips, and Dan
O'Reilly shared the goal -tending
duties, while Derek Nesbitt and
Jamie Dick added to the team's
line-up. The first goal was scored
when Tim Sills passed to J.D.
Nolan who passed to Scott Van
Dooren who scored. London then
scored, followed by a goal by Daryl
Young, unassisted. Goal three was
netted by Scott Henderson who
received a pass from Jason Hulley.
In the second period, Derek Nesbitt
picked up a loose puck, shot in by
Mark Vock and succeeded in battl-
ing his way to the net to score the
Peewees' fourth goal. London
scored again but team play was
evident on Seaforth's next goal.
Henderson passed to Nesbitt who
was ready to fire it in Nesbitt was
in the right place again when he
was able to deflect Mark Philips'
shot into the London net.
After J.D. Nolan, Scott Van
Dooren, and Tim Sills bombarded
London with shots, Nolan's finally
found the mark. Henderson picked
up the last goal before London
scored again making it 8-3 for
Seaforth.
In other previous games,
Milverton was defeated 6-3,
Mitchell defeated Seaforth 3-0 and
Zurich came out on top with a 6-3
score.
1994 Cents among best in team histo
It took a long time coming but
Shawn O'Leary's first goal for the
Centenaires was a winner. In more
ways than one.
He tucked it home with 2352 left
in regulation time at Mt. Brydges
Saturday night to give Seaforth a 4-
3 comeback win and knock the
hometown Bulldogs out of third
place in the Western Division of the
Ontario Hockey Association's Jun-
ior Development League. What's
more, the victory left this year's
edition of the Centenaires with a
15-13-4 record as it enters the home
stretch in its bid to become only the
fourth team in the franchises 20 -
year history to finish the regular
season above .500, in other words
with more wins that losses.
Assistant coach Joe Chaffe, who
handled the bench because Maurice
Guy won tickets to the Wings game
in Detroit and was given the night
off, called Saturday's result a 'char-
acter win' for the Centenaires
coming as it did on the road against
a team ahead of them in the stand-
ings, and without five regulars in
the lineup - Karsten and Kalen
Carroll, Ted Sills, Andrew Scott
and Ben Sen, who were au tempor-
arily out for various reasons. Chaffe
says a win against Mt. Brydges is
also significant because, unless
some dramatic changes in "t -
occur to seriously alter the stan
ings, the Centenaire will meet either
these same Bulldogs or the Exeter
Hawks in the opening round of the
playoffs.
Seaforth hosted the .Lucan Irish
Six last night (Tuesday) but results
were not available at press time.
That leaves seven games for the
Centenaires before their schedule
ends Feb. 18, four at home and
three on the road. They play three
of these in the next week. Both
weekend games will be in the
friendly confines of the Seaforth
and District Community Centres.
Friday night at 8:30 they host the
Belmont Pests. Sunday night at 8
they host the Irish Six again. Next
Tuesday night the Cents travel to
Mitchell for an 8:30 makeup game
with the league -leading Hawks, the
one that was snowed out on Boxing
Day.
It's been a frustrating season
around the net for the diminutive
O'Leary, a 17 -year-old forward
from Stratford whose goal was his
first in 14 games. He scored for the
Cents in a 3-3 pre -season tie with
the Brussels Bulls but after also
hitting Junior C camps in
Woodstock and New Hamburg
decided to go back to Stratford for
another season of midget. Things
didn't pan out, and the Cents had
kept in touch, so he signed with
Seaforth in the middle of Novem-
ber. Since then his scoring touch
has been missing in action, although
he has managed to stay in
Seaforth's starting front nine
because of his above-average skat-
ing abilities and his tenacious,
terrier -like forechecking, traits that
are prominent enough that scouts
from junior B Oshwegan have been
up to look at him in practice.
Steve Geiger and Scott Wright
both drew assists on Saturday
night's winner as O'Leary darted
out from behind the net and slid the
puck into the open net before Bull-
dog goalie Jay Detlor could cover
his post. Jason Hayter's pair of first
period goals, one on the powerplay

Nesbitt scored on another of his
end-to-end rushes. Nesbitt and Greg
McGrath set up Jason Denys to
give Seaforth a 2-0 lead. Stephen
Township narrowed the gap to 2-1
in the second and then scored three
unanswered goals in the third for
the victory.
In Clinton on Saturday it was a
different story with Seaforth scoring
a lopsided victory over its western
neighbours. The line of Josh Hol-
land, Nick Elligsen and Barry
Young did most of the damage in
the 10-0 rout. Josh Holland led the
way with a five -goal and one -assist
outburst. Centre Nick Elligsen
chipped in two goals and three

helped set up Seaforth goals. Kyle
Teichert and Greg Medd, although
not tested often, made the tough
saves when they had to for the
shutout.

Elligsen had four goals
BY KELLY HURRAY
On Saturday, Jan. 22 Seaforth
travelled to Hensall and won 7-0.
Cal O'Reilly was goalie for this
game with not much action, thanks
to the defence of Brittany Williams,
Mackenzie Fisher, Adam Broome
and Ryan Nurse.
Tyler Elligsen had a great game
with four goals. Assisting his goals
were David Verberne, Ryan Nurse
and Matt Carnochan (2). Matt
Dalton got two goals with super
passes from Bradley Henderson and
Brendan Murray. David Verberne
scored on a breakaway when
Stephen Medd worked it to him.
On Superbowl Sunday, this great
team played in Clinton against
Belgrave and Ryan Nurse gave a
shutout. The team is sad that
MacKenzie Fisher broke his arm,
and can't wait to have him back.
Great defence was played by Adam
Broome and Brittany Williams.
Often setting up the teammates
were David Verberne, Stephen
Medd, Matt Dalton and Brendan
Murray. Chipping in on the goals
were Tyler Elligsen, Callahan
O'Reilly, Bradley Henderson and
Matt Carnochan. No matter what
the score is the coaches Keith
Murray, Brian O'Reilly and Richard
Verberne have made this team true
winners.
Get well soon, Mackenzie!
gave Seaforth a 2-0 'eau atter the
first period. The Bulldogs got the
next three, trailing 2-1 after the
second but then taking a 3-2 lead
which they held until under four
minutes remained. Paul McLlwain
tied it up on the powerplay with
3:52 left setting the stage for the
end of O'Leary's draught. Dana
Duskocy got back to his winning
ways in the Seaforth net. Geiger,
Wright, and Joe Murray all had two
assists in the game with singles
contributed by Don Rivers and
Trevor Smith. Referee Brian
Donaher gave each team five minor
penalties. The Bulldogs also had an
ejection to Derek Blookfield for
checking from bchindwen a hit on
Seaforth's Jason Murray, who left
the ice on a stretcher and seemed
seriously injured but later recovered
with the application of ice to the
back of his knee.
In their 19 seasons so far only
Centenaires team to finish the sea-
son above the .500 mark were the
inaugural edition of 1974-75, the
1984-85 squad and 1985-86 cham-
pionship tearn.
